Are Mild Cognitive Impairment, Sore Throat And Neck Swelling Symptoms Of TIA?

Question: My wife experienced some temporary and minor cognitive impairment for a day or two. She had trouble understanding simple concepts and seemed rattled emotionally. She had a sore throat and some swelling of glands in neck. She is OK after a couple of days. Could this have been a TIA? Should she see a doctor? If so, how quickly? Thanks.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

TIA (transient ischemic attack) by definition includes neurologic deficits that subsidie at least after 24 hours or less, and there is evidence of ischemia on MRI of brain in the first days after the episode.

Neurologic deficits in TIA include sensory and motor disturbances of body and/or limbs, besides cognitive impairment, so I don't think it was TIA.

However your wife should consult a Neurologist, have a mental state and neurologic examination, because episodes of cognitive impairment may herald dementia in your wife'sage.

There is no emergency, however.
