Are Lower Abdominal Pain, Diarrhea And Blood In Stool Symptoms Of Hemorrhoids?

default
Posted on Mon, 6 Jul 2015
Question: Hi, I'm 44 female, I always had problem with my stomach all my life. But since I had 2 kids, I've been having problems with hemorrhoid comes and goes. For last year or 2, it doesn't go away anymore. Now my stool is thinner, about once a month, when I have really bad diarrhea, it bleeds. Last 3 month or so, I'm having lower abdominal pain. Lots of gas at night time too. Pain doesn't stay all the time, it feels like I'm going to have period kind of pain.
I don't have insurance, I haven't seen the doctor for a long time, I don't know which doctor to see or how much would it cost without insurance. I'm so worry that can't sleep very well.

Brief Answer:
You should consult gastrologist.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Hemorrhoids are the external sign of internal problem. The main problem causing hemorrhoids are constipation and irregular stools.
Lower abdominal pain, diarrhea, blood in stool are not typical symptoms of hemorrhoids. Blood in stool when appears as a single symptom, and it is not mixed with stool (on its surface) is typical for hemorrhoids.
You symptoms can be caused by some inflammatory bowels disease (Crohns disease). Hemorrhoids seem the last thing you should be worried about.

That is why I suggest you to consult gastrologist. Colonoscopy is necessary to diagnose your problem.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
