Are Large Dark Purple Bruises On The Breast Signs Of Inflammatory Breast Cancer?

default
Posted on Thu, 12 May 2016
Question: Hi - my sister woke up this morning with large bruises on both breasts. She had no trauma but They are very dark, purple bruises. I'm worried that it might be inflammatory breast cancer and I'm concerned because her doctor had never seen anything like it and she's sending her for a mammogram even though, from what I've read, it's difficult to diagnose that kind of Brest cancer without a biopsy. However it was on both breasts and that would be unlikely for cancer, right?

Brief Answer:
unlikely to be cancer

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.

Any cancer, even if inflammatory breast cancer, is extremely unlikely to crop up one fine morning. And it is bilateral bruise. So cancer not possible.

May be some trauma, from tight brassiere, etc has caused this. Otherwise, we have to think about bleeding disorder like low platelets.

If she can upload a picture, that would be helpful.

Hope this helps.
