Question: Hi, I am a 31 yr female, diagnosed with typhoid two days ago. St o 1:160 and St h 1:80, wbc was 14,000 leucocytosis. My question is this - I had similar high fever and cold Twoi weeks ago and took azee 500 for four days. At that point I thought it was merely cold infection. Could that have been typhoid. Also I have severe dry cough now that seems to get worse. Other than that and weakness I have no diarrhoea. Have severe constipation instead. What stage of typhoid am I in.? How to help the cough?

Brief Answer:
2 weeks of antibiotics will help you recover...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Fever and cold is more common features of flu than typhoid. Further since you got better in 4 days of antibiotic treatment, your symptoms two weeks ago doesn't seem like typhoid infection to me.

In this circumstance, I would repeat your widal test or order either typhi dot test / blood culture to confirm typhoid infection. Nevertheless, antibiotic therapy is appropriate. If this is indeed typhoid, 2 weeks of antibiotic will help you recover from this infection.

Please note that, once you are on appropriate antibiotics, you are placed in the stage of recovery. So do not be concerned.

If cough is severe, you can be started on diphenhydramine syrup like benadryl. Your treating doctor will know about it.

Hope this helps.
