Are Headache, Occasional Cough, Dizziness And Body Pain Signs Of Flu?

default
Posted on Thu, 31 Mar 2016
Question: I feel like I have the flu: body aches, temps100-102, headache, rare cough, dizziness at times. Flu test was neg. CBC normal. Dr said just a virus. So do I have a cold? Why do I feel so bad if it's just a cold. Could it be that this is the first time I've been exposed to this virus and if i get this virus again, the symptoms will be less severe?

Brief Answer:
could be even the flu

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

although a negative test is against being diseased by influenza, it cannot exclude it. Your symptoms sound a lot like influenza but other viruses may cause them too. You can't get the same virus twice every year, so this is not true. There are a lot of viruses that may cause similar infections.

Bacterial disease is also a consideration. Clinical examination may provide more clues, so a visit to your doctor would be helpful!

So I might just have a virus making me feel this way? I assumed that if it wasn't the flu, it was a cold. But I don't have the traditional cold symptoms- scratchy throat changing to sore throat, nasal congestion, bad cough etc or at least not yet. What I meant about again is, this time the virus made me have a temp and feel bad, because I've never been exposed to it before. If I got it again, I'll have the traditional cold symptoms, possibly.

I did go to the Dr. He said it was not a bacterial infection since my white count was normal.

Brief Answer:
symptoms from viral infections may vary

Detailed Answer:
Yes, it's the virus. Viral infections have a great variability in presenting symptoms. They may range from a 'harmless' runny nose to a life threatening pneumonia. Since you've got tests and clinical examination done, the diagnosis is almost certain.

Sorry for the delayed answer. We've got a huge time difference.
