Are Fordyce Spots On Genitals Related To HPV?

Question: Fordyce spots or genital warts. I went to the doctor probably a year go with what I thought was genital herpes, that turned to just be skin irritation but during the exam he said I had warts along the shaft of my penis. He burned them off. The small bumps that he treated I had for a long time. They would become inflamed and really itchy and I could pop them. I didn't question the diagnosis, I went home and talked to my wife about it and adjusted to the news. We have been together for six years and only practiced safe sex while we were dating, assuming she would also have them we made an appointment for her and she had a pap done. Everything came back 100% fine. We were relieved that she didn't but started using condoms to prevent it. She had some issues with some bumps, itching and burning this week so she went to the doctor thinking hpv had showed up but it turned out with was just bad chaffing from exercising. Her doc told her he didn't think I had hpv and that it is commonly misdiagnosed for fordyce, and that the chances of her never contracting it from me in five years is slim to none. I don't have any now to show a doctor, but I am desperate to know if this is true.

Brief Answer:
You need not worry. What the doctor has told you is correct.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have very carefully gone through the details. Let me assure you that I do not think that the bumps are anything other than Fordyce spots. It is common to get some fungal infections over the area once in a while since the area remains sweaty. Simply keeping the area dry or the use of Candid (clotrimazole) powder should help you overcome the same. It does not relate to HPV and unless you ever indulge in sex with any other individual, you two need not worry about HPV. I assure you that what your doctor has told you is true and that you two need not worry.

Wish you all the best.

Regards
