Are Elevated Monocytes Suggestive Of Lyme's Disease?

default
Posted on Tue, 31 May 2016
Question: My 2.5 year old daughter was limping last week, but an ER visit provided no explanation. We followed up with our pedestrian and she ordered a complete blood work to evaluate for potential to lymne disease. The results posted tonight with everything showing in the expected range except for monocytes at 12.3. What could be the cause.

Brief Answer:
Please, upload the entire reporter review and interpretation!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about the limping your daughter suffered and this abnormal finding about lymphocytes. I will like to review the entire report as it is very difficult and unlikely to pick a single value without looking at others and make a reasonable conclusion. However, Lyme’s disease is really not known to cause limping at the early stages and unless your daughter has been to the woods/hiking, it is unlikely that she got bitten by the vector that transmits Lyme’s disease. Monocytes increase is not suggestive of Lyme’s disease either but would love to see the entire report.
