default
Posted on Wed, 2 Mar 2016
Question: Hello doctor,

1) For the past two three days I have been feeling dizzy and vomitting feeling. Today I went to the doctor they told that I might have vertigo and a little high BP 140/90.They checked my CBG just after my breakfast and it was 165. They prescribed me suzeron 0-0-1 and nootropil 800 1-0-1 for 5 days and asked me to record my BP levels morning and night for 5 days and visit back for review. I had sinusitis and got FESS done 2 years back. Is vertigo because of it. Please confirm and how long will it take to cure. Any home remedies??

2) I drink every night after work (180ml) some times I feel very shaky when I am hungry. Is it becaus of alcohol or vertigo. What need to be done for this or Do I have low blood sugar. please advice.

Brief Answer:
Daily alcohol consumption may cause these symptoms.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome to the HCM,

Since vertigo is a sign not a disease .And to treat dizziness and vomiting (vertigo),the causative factor should be ruled out first.

Going through your history provided ,it seems that these symptoms are less likely due to sinusitis.
What culprit cause could be daily consumption of alcohol. As alcohol it self works as slow poison in body if consumed daily.Firstly it damages organs which control metabolism ,those are pancreas and liver. And if Pancreas and liver do not function properly then it may cause unbalanced blood sugar level, high ammonia ,indigestion and other metabolites which might be causing these symptoms of dizziness and vomiting and weakness.

Since alcohol also damages brain tissue and causes vitamin B1 defeciency ,which may cause
symptoms of weakness, shakiness, decreased memory , depression ,dizziness and blackouts etc

Even alcohol affects heart muscle and causes high lipid profile ,which may cause high blood pressure and blood circulatory changes .

Since normal fasting blood sugar range should be 70 to 110 mg/dl and after meals normal range should be less than 180mg/dl. To rule out unbalanced blood sugar level ,HBA1C test and fasting blood sugar level is advised .Since from one reading of post breakfast sugar level ,it can not be decided that you have low sugar problem.

Well in nut shell ,I would like to suggest that stop alcohol consumption first to stop the above mentioned consequences .And regular checkups under care of treating doctor is advised.

Please do not hesitate to ask again,if you have more questions to ask.
Wish you best of health,
Best regards,

Thanks Doctor for a detailed explanation.

As I am very much addicted Its really hard to stop the habit at once. Gradually I can. I have planned not to drink on weekdays and have only on weekends.

But what are the medicines or other habits should I follow to come out of this dizziness and shakyness immediately. Please suggest.

Regards

Brief Answer:
Medicines for vertigo can only give temporary relief.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Dear to treat the vertigo ,it is important to treat the causative factor first. The medicines which can be used are meclizine, diazepam ,but these medicines are not cures for this .To cure these symptoms ,the causative factors should be ruled out first so it can be treated accordingly.
Apart from addiction of alcohol, imbalanced blood sugar level, high blood pressure, low blood pressure, anemia, the other factors which can cause these symptoms are ,
Inner ear problem
Spinal cord problem
Neurological problem
Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo....(an ear problem which cause vertigo due to unknown reason)

So to treat vertigo Neurological and Ear examination , getting checked blood Haemoglobin level would also help to rule out other common causes of vertigo and shakiness.
To get rid of alcohol addiction you may seek a professional counsellar help ,and check out if there are good helping centres in your city to help getting rid of alcohol addiction.

Hopefully my answer will be helpfull for you, please do not hesitate to ask again ,if you have more queries to ask.
Best regards,
Dr.Maheshwari
