Are Asthalin Syrup And Novamox The Right Medicines For Runny Nose And Cough?
Question: My Son is 10 Months old [born 21 March 2014], was crying, very douzy and puked in the duration of crying 3 times in one day.
Doctor took the blood samples for following tests and medicine given were - Asthalin Syrup and Novamox 125.
as per doc the tests were normal.
Now my son is little droozy most of the time. he couldn't answer what had happend to my child. I AM WORRIED

he had running nose, cough, scratching of ears adn fou smelling gases but tools is approporiate... today he passed semi loose stools... rubbing his hand around stomach when he was crying before puking.

Hi .
Based on the symptoms you wrote it appears that the child is suffering with viral respiratory tract infection along with stomach infection.
Child may be given some antiemetic syrup like ondansetron about 2.5 ml three times a day empty stomach. Wait for about 30 minutes,then start giving him sips of water which should be given continuously in every two minutes gap.
Syrup sinarest about 3.5 ml 8 hourly basis to be started after about a hour of giving ondansetron.
Syrup ofloxacin about 5 ml three times a day after giving sinarest.
All these medicines are prescribed medications and will take care of the stomach and viral RTI.
Plenty of fluids to be given continuously by sips. You can discuss about these medications with your treating doctor.
Still if the baby do not respond then please consult your pediatrician so that he can evaluate and manage him judiciously.

Here are report results if you could help me understand them
Neutrophils 68.60 ; Lymphocytes:28.30 ; Eosinophils;0.20; Monocytes:2.80; Basophils: 0.10 ; Platelet count:410 and PCV:35.10 assuming you would know the normal range,
Now he is fine but doesn't fall asleep easily, tends to try different position to sleep and keep scratching his right ear, doesn't eat food [ Cerelac or Khichdi [rice+dal+carrot+salt only]
Kindly advise based on report and advise what he can eat and what he should avoid at this age

Investigation report appears to be not much significant.except some raised neutrophil, for this we are already giving antibiotic.
Please continue all the medicines prescribed earlier. He may be having some malaise so additionally syrup calpol about 3.5 ml sos to be given when ever he is restless.
Otogesic ear drops 4 drops every four hourly can be instilled in both the ears to relief.
Encourage to take plenty of fluids. After the fever/malaise is over the appetite will come back and he may start eating some thing.

10 month old should be given lot of different home made semisolids. Like dal,rice, curd, daliya, custured. kheer, vermicellis, boiled mashed potatoes,soups etc.
Tinned food can also be given like cerelac but it is better to shift the baby to homemade food.
All the eatables should be freshly cooked(not stored in refrigerator).
Milk to be boiled every 6 hourly.
Feeding bottle to be boiled every time before the baby is fed.
