Question: Hey doc,
I had a risky exposure a year ago and since i had neumerous hiv tests, including 3 fourth generation ( Duo or Combo tests ) at 8 weeks, 6 months and 7 months and also had a full body check up at 10 months.
However i have these spots ( felloculitis maybe) on my chest and they are recurrent, they come and go, havent done anythjng aboht them just yet its been 3 months i have them. Not sure its due to hottube or weak immune system. I need your help.
Do you think these spots on my chest are anything related to hiv?

Brief Answer:
not from HIV

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for your question.
If you had HIV testing as you mentioned then you do not have HIV. Most people convert to positive after 3 months and only in rare cases does it take 6 months for someone to become positive and that is usually in people with an already compromised immune system. So if you were tested at 7 months after the exposure and have had no further exposures then you do not have HIV.
The bumps could certainly be from hot tub exposure as some bacteria and yeasts are known to grow in some hot tubs that are not maintained properly.
However, this is more likely just a folliculitis or other skin irritation. The photo you send does not look concerning. If these lesions just come and go do not worry about it. If they persist or become very frequent then see a dermatologist.

Thank you very much for your kind and quick reply doc, i just have two three and most of the times just one.
Its like i have one and for couple of weeks i have nothing then again one somewhere else on my chest. Rarely i have more than one or two spots.
Does this fall into the frquent catagory you mentioned above?
I had more than 6 hiv tests, including 3 DUO or 4th gen tests and up to 10 months post exposure.
Since there are so many contradictory over window period im confused and any symptoms makes me extremly nervous.

Brief Answer:
clarification

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for the follow up,
If you had a 4th generation test at 6 months then you are not HIV positive.
As far as the rash, or bumps, if you are getting them every week or if there are more than 5-6 at a time I think it would be good to see a dermatologist. Also if this is really bothering you although it is less frequent then you can see a dermatologist just for some reassurance that it is nothing serious
