For a beginner, most important thing is diet. Only protein does not make a good diet. You have to take the following for total effect -

1. Whey protein - it is very much important for building muscles. Take only whey protein when you do not want to gain mass. If you want to gain mass, take the whey along with oats and olive oil.
It is available in market in many tradenames. You can choose any one of them as per your economic condition.

2. Fish oil containing omega 3 fatty acids- it is the most important supplement for lowering fats of body, lowering cholesterol level, lowering soreness, lowering inflammation, etc.

3. Multivitamin medicines containing zinc and other micro-nutrients.

Try to take the above mentioned food supplements. Avoid taking the cheap food supplements available in market. Sometimes these contain steroid which will deteriorate your health in long term.
