Hello,
At 49,you are peri-menopausal. During this period of transition to full menopause, your cycles may be irregular for months before completely ceasing. If the bleeding is moderate and not abnormal, then there is nothing to do. But if you have heavy bleeding, clots etc then you will need an ultrasound and examination to rule out pathology.

I am 54 years old and have gone through menopause several years ago. Sometimes my heart beats real hard...just once and maybe again several minutes or hours later. It is a really hard beat. It is scaring me. I do not have high blood pressure. It is usually 95/60 or so. My pulse at the time of the hard beat is about 65 bpm or less. Is this something I should worry about?

Dear Dr Kruger
I was diagnosed with anal cancer in January 2006. I had six weeks of radiation and two full weeks of chemotherapy. I was given all the clear in June 2006. They then found a growth in my liver and I had 3 more rounds of chemotherapy. There was no change in the growth but the doctors decided to do a liver resection. The growth turned out to be non cancerous. As I am 43 and because of the treatment I have had I have done into menopause. I been prescribed Livial one tablet a day, Provera one tablet for 14 days and Ovestin twice a week. I have reservations about taking this medication. Do you think my reservations are warranted?
