User:Hi doctor
User:my query is on selecting milk powder for my 2 month old baby
User:currently we are using dexolac
Doctor:May i know , if you are giving breast milk to the child ?
Doctor:Has your doctor mentioned the milk production to be less ?
User:yes but its not sufficient
Doctor:Usually , for a child under 4 months, only breast milk is adviced
User:doctor has given medicine etc for milk production but its not sufficient
Doctor:in that case, you can continue the same
Doctor:I mean Dexolac
User:ya but i heard NAN is good for baby's growth
User:in my relatives someone is using LAC and their baby has put on lot of weight
User:and also i read over internet that it induces nice growth mentally and physically
User:I have also come across some NAN similac enfapro enfalac friso S26
User:in my place we have been using either dexolac or lactogen
User:how are these NAN or other stuff different from this dexolac
Doctor:First and foremost, all milk formulae , have similar composition, as approved by FDA
Doctor:some brands explain their products better
Doctor:some do not
Doctor:Either of the product can be used
User:so u mean to say no much difference between NAN and dexolac
Doctor:These milk formulae are not medications ,
Doctor:they are just diet products for infants, so that it can be easily absorbed
Doctor:they make it easy, for the infant, to absorb nutrients , when it is needed
User:NAN is expensive other one is not that much...u mean to say they have same nutrients?
Doctor:so you can use either of the products
Doctor:NAN is expensive, as it contains WHEY protein , which makes it expensive
Doctor:ultimately, you have to make sure, that calorie intake based on the amount of feed is balanced
Doctor:NAN may need smaller quantities , while Dexolac needs more qty per feeds
Doctor:NAN is a special purpose feed, which is meant for infants with low birth weight , etc
User:my baby was born with normal weight only of 3.3 kg
Doctor:if your baby , has growth issues, then, you can consult with your doctor, and he may ask you to switch
Doctor:In that case, continue breast feeds, as much as possible
Doctor:and give Dexolac and top feeds
Doctor:if he is not gaining weight over time, you can switch to NANA
Doctor:** NAN
User:what is top feeds?
Doctor:additional feeds, given in additon to the breast milk is called top feeding
User:ok thanks a lot
Doctor:U r welcome
Doctor:take care and bye for now
