User:yes I just got results from Brain MRI :Mild and symmetric increase in size of the lateral ventricles and increased depht of cortical sulci ,mild prominence of temporal horns suggest involutional changes. I have been suffering from memory problems, concentration, disorientation
User:are you there
User:my name is XXXXXXX
Doctor:These changes on the MRI seem like age related chnages
Doctor:you don't have to worry about it
User:i am only 53 and my symptoms are quite severe I cannot even function normally at work due to my forgetfullness
Doctor:O understand your problems
User:lack of concentrations, attention and confusion when given an explation of something
Doctor:Yes, these symptoms can be explained by your MRI findings
User:could this mean like early onset of dementia or Alzheimer
User:I cannot keep a job
Doctor:Yes it looks like early onset dementia
User:it is very scary, you would think that someone much older would be having these problems not at 53
Doctor:Yes, these symptoms are not common in people of your age
Doctor:they are symptoms of old age
User:is there any medications that can like stop in early onset
Doctor:You are likely to be genetically predisposed
Doctor:unfortunately there are no medicines that can stop it completely
User:so if its early onset what can I expect
Doctor:however, you should consult a neurologist for this
Doctor:First thing is to confirm it
Doctor:if it is indeed early onset dementia, your neurologist will explain to you what life style changes you would need to make
User:I am I have an appointment for the results from him next week but I have copy of the MRI report and wanted to find out, or at least have some kind of answer as to how I am feeling, i feel like i am going crazy
Doctor:and he/she might also prescribe you some medcines
User:how can it be confirmed
Doctor:It can be confirmed by a complete physical examination and detailed history
User:didn't i just pay to get a professional opinion from a doctor?
Doctor:I am sorry, I am not a neurologist, so my knowledge is limited on this subject
User:the XXXXXXX mental status test was 27/30
User:I am very concerned about not being able to keep a job
Doctor:I can understand your fears completely
Doctor:it is very unfortunate that you should develop these problems now
User:i am on a medical leave right now because my memory was so bad my boss was always mad at me and before i got fired i decided to take a leave and get all these test done
Doctor:but right now you can't change it
Doctor:you did the right thing
User:will i be diagnosed as mentally disabled?
Doctor:with proper medications your memory might improve
Doctor:I do not think so
User:oh no disability
Doctor:You will get disability
User:can depression have any part of this or are the MRI reports different
Doctor:because you will most probably be diagnosed as early onset dementia
Doctor:Depression is very much a part of this
User:I am also seeing a psychiatrist
Doctor:You should
User:i take wellbutrin and lexapro daily
Doctor:and please visit your neurologist for a better diagnosis and to better understand your condition
User:I dont know but your answers seem very generic to me is this an actual licensed doctor web site
Doctor:please do continue with your current medications
User:may I have you full name please
Doctor:It is a licensed doctor's website
Doctor:I am Dr. XXXXXXX D
User:and I am chatting with an actual licensed physician
Doctor:you are mam
User:how fast does dementia progress
Doctor:I am a qualified and registered medical practitioner. I can send you my degree certificate copy by email. It will be up to you to decide whether you would like to follow my suggestions or not.
User:will I get a copy of this conversation also
Doctor:Yes, you can print this conversation any time
Doctor:Dementia progression varies from person to person
User:oh i well follow your suggestions I have appointments set up already. I wanted a faster answer than waiting until next week to see the neurologist even though I will be going. So how fast does dementia progress
Doctor:Dementia is not uniform among all people
Doctor:some progress very slowly
Doctor:and some progress much faster
Doctor:in general, early onset dementia progresses faster
User:did i write you the full report findings
Doctor:You did, in the beginning
Doctor:is there anything else I can help you with?
User:I think I already knew that maybe I would have something like this I am a nurse and notice that it is not normal for someone my age to suffer from these symtoms. mind you i drive and shop and have an active lifestyle except when it comes to remembering things and all of the other sypmtoms I described. I am not working as a nurse now I was an executive assistant but I cannot do that
User:So you can say that what percent of what you told would be repeated by my neurologist regarding the early onset dementia
Doctor:I understand your problems and I can see that you are very troubled by the prospect of losing your job
Doctor:I am certain that your neurologist will repeat almost 100 percent of what I have said
User:we have a few minutes left can you please answer my last question
Doctor:Yes, sure
Doctor:please fo ahead
Doctor:please go ahead
Doctor:I will try my best
User:Thank you for your consult Dr. XXXXXXX
Doctor:You are most welcome
User:can this be inherited
Doctor:You wanted to ask me a question
Doctor:This can be inherited

Doctor:as I said earlier, early onset dementia has genetic predisposition
Doctor:Thank you for consulting me
User:Thank you
