I have had a tender neck and under chin for about 2 years now. Gone to Arthritis Doctor because I also have moments of muscle pains throughout body - thought might be Fibro, have the pressure points but not the extreme fatigue. I just had an ANA test for Autoimmune and it came back positive - my family doctor does not seem alarmed, but says I should go back to the specialist as he wants to see me in May. Also just had small amount blood in my urine, my doctor thinks it was a bladder infection, but just after this happened I passed a Kidney stone. Specialist wants to recheck my urine (he is not aware of kidney expisode). I have a high risk of Cancer in my family (both parents and aunts - young age) I am 55. I cannot get into my doctor for another week, and I am getting concerned. The neck tenderness has never gone away at all. My family doctor feels my neck, but again isn't concerned - also had a sore throat going of and on for two months now. So I feel like I am a mess and getting no answers and afraid that it might be something more serious. Appreciate your thoughts. Thank you.
Doctor:Give me a moment to read your query
Doctor:I have read your query
Doctor:I need to know where in the neck region do you fell pain?
Doctor:Are you there?
User:Under the chin, and up around to ears, and at back of neck. Sometimes my ears hurt. But the neck seems to always be tender.
Doctor:Is it the spine of the neck that hurts or it is some other region?
Doctor:So the upper part of neck hurts
User:Tender also a base of neck it does don't feel like an injury Yes as well
User:My neck area all around is tender to the touch
Doctor:Is it in the muscles?
User:I don't think it is the muscles. If I press on it it feels sore.
Doctor:Do you have any increase in pain while opening the mouth?
User:No. If my lymph nodes were swollen would not my family doctor feel it.
User:Are you still there my screen is full and I am not seeing any response
Doctor:Yes I am there
Doctor:Do you get headaches with it?
User:No I do not. I was a few months a go in the morning, but that has stopped
Doctor:How did it start? Was there any injury or whiplash injury of neck while driving?
Doctor:I know I am asking a few questions but it will help me in ruling out some conditions
User:No injuries - this has been going on since I had very bad muscle spasms and pain throughout my entire body (back, legs, arms) two years April - My doctor thought it was Rhuematoid arthritis and I was on anitflammotorys for 3 months. Sent It calmed down a bit after 3 months and my doctor sent me to arthritis specialist. He had me take all these blood work which I just did. The pain still comes but not as sever as initial run - but the neck thing is constant
Doctor:Now latest turn of events is that ANA came back positive
Doctor:It is quite possible that your neck pain and other muscle pain may be related to some autoimmune disorder
User:Original tests for rhuemotoid came back negative at that time. - that's why Fribro was thought to be problem. My concern is the positive ANa test with tender neck -
User:Yes that's how I feel about autoimmune, but what is causing it?
Doctor:Immunity attacks body organs
Doctor:Many organs may get involved
Doctor:Inflammation happens due to the attack
User:But what can it be - I am frustrated and concerned I may have cancer
Doctor:Muscle pain is one of the symptoms
Doctor:Cancer usually has other associated symptoms like weight loss, fatigue, etc
Doctor:Some lesion usually shows up in cancer
Doctor:It does not seem to be cancer
User:I know I do not have those symptoms - but doesn't that happen later on in stages.
Doctor:Not really
Doctor:Fatigue starts rightaway followed by weight loss
User:Thank you for that. Could it be Lupas, I do not have the rash.
Doctor:There are many types of autoimmune diseases
User:Could it be thyroid, I have a very slow metabolism.
Doctor:lupus usually has a red rash on face
Doctor:itcan be thyroid
User:No, that is not happening.
Doctor:it can also be some throat infection
Doctor:that is spreading
Doctor:an ENT doctor would be able to check that
User:I have been on two boughts of antiobiotics just recently for what we thought was bladder infection.
Doctor:Since other muscles were also involved it seems to be more wide spread
User:What is an ENT doctor. Also I had a cat scan for when in for Kidney stone at emergency. Would they not have seen something for concern.
Doctor:It seems more like autoimmune
Doctor:Cat scan of which region?
User:Full body, not head - Idoctor thought it was probably Kidney stone as I have been in for other
Doctor:ENT doctor is ear, nose and throat specialist
Doctor:Yes CAT scan would be able to find some lesion like lumps
User:How do you treat an autoimmune problem
User:Ok so I can rule out cancer?
Doctor:The basic part is to suppress the inflammation
Doctor:Are you suspecting cancer of throat area?
Doctor:In such a scenario lymph nodes will be positive
User:I don't know anymore, I hope not - just don't know how to proceed
Doctor:There would be symptoms like dyshagia (inability to swallow), etc
Doctor:You may go for ENT consultation also
Doctor:It will help you rule out local conditions of throat that may cause similar symptoms
Doctor:In case of autoimmune conditions, biopsy of painfull area is done to find the cause
User:Not a problem - I am however going to have an endoscopphy next week as I had a polup removed 4 years ago - I was having bad heartburn - but I have watched my diest and it seems to have cleared up.
Doctor:That is good
Doctor:You may also drink pure drinking water to take care of digestive issues
User:My doctor does send me for tests regularly as per my history - I just also had a pelvic ultrasound - so I am a little overwhelmed right now.
User:I just want to get to the bottom of the problem and know what I have so I can address it.
Doctor:I understand
Doctor:I want you to know that many people have these symptoms because of autoimmune problems
Doctor:and they live their life to the full
User:I know stress can cause things as well, and I have had an extreme amount in the past year.
Doctor:For stress go for breathing techniques and meditation
Doctor:It helps
User:Trying to exercise. Thank you for your help. I will be talking to my family doctor and mention these concerns to him again - It has been going on for too long without a diagnosis.
Doctor:I think do more tests on the lines of autoimmune conditions
