User:I am having serious pain and muscle spasms in my neck and back...I thought it might be from my migraine that I suffered with since Thursday. But then it became kinda like a panic attack... I have taken 4mg of xanex since 11:00pm and know relief. Is it ok for me to take 2 10mg valium right now? I can't move, my neck and back are locked up, PLEASE I need some relief....
Let me read your query for few minutes to be able to have a good discussion here.
Doctor:Besides the medical history that you have provided, do you have history of liver disease in the past?
User:no, my enzymes are normal.
Doctor:Both the drugs belongs to benzodiazepine. And it rarely causes harmful effects if liver functions are in limits.
Doctor:However I wouldn't recommend my patients to over do benzodiazepines.
User:that is what I dont want to do, but I am just trying to get some relief until i can get into my doctor.
User:and i don't want to OVERDOSE!
Doctor:Benzodiazepine has a very large overdose limit.
Doctor:Again the dose depend varies among individuals.
User:I know , they scare me...I try not to take them. I have been on the xanex for a couple of years. I found an old bottle of my valium, and I know it has a muscle relaxer in it...
Doctor:If it is hurting, I would try regular NSAIDs to control the ache.
Doctor:I wouldn't use 20mg valium since it has longer action period.
Doctor:unless you have been used to those doses in the past.
User:not just pain, it's like all my muscles are locked up in , my neck, shoulders and back
Doctor:Theoretically the chances of over dose with 4mg xanex and 20mg valium is low; but with first time use the side effects can be more.
User:So honestly, what do you think? These meds really scare me...
Doctor:Have you been prescribed to take both these tablets together?
User:no, i just found an old bottle of the valium when I was prescribed it
Doctor:If you don't wish to visit the ER, the last I would do is try small dose (5mg) of valium.
Doctor:Not that 20 mg will cause over dose effect, but since its the first time the interaction and synergestic effects cannot be completely sure off.
Doctor:As the effect of valium lasts slightly longer than xanex, it is preferred to take a low dose when it is the first time.
Doctor:Hope this answers your question.
Doctor:Do you have any questions?
User:ok, i might just go to ER...because these meds honestly scare me. I will tell them what I have taken and go from there.
User:thank you for your help
Doctor:I apologize if I have not been very helpful; but I would recommend the same advice to all my patients here in my clinic. Benzodiazepine is relative safe even at high doses; but the effects are always unknown with first time use.
Doctor:Thanks for consulting me anyway.
Doctor:Bye for now.
User:thanks again
