User:Hi! I have 19 m old son and last 2 weeks we have had issue with his skin. He has red cheeks that sometimes appear to be redder and sometimes almost normal. They are especially red after waking up but can occur anytime during the day. There are also red spots on his arms and legs - like red little bumpy spots and they have been there also about 2-3 weeks. 5 days ago I noticed also little red spots on his ear and some purple spots on both of his earlobes. Googling symptoms got me very worried. Child acts normal, is happy and playful. Sleeps normally, does not have had fever or cold symptoms. The spots are really only symptom. He had bloodtest done in dec that was normal. We did move to XXXXXXX in January so I am thinking about possible allergies but can that cause purple spots on ears? He eats normally and stools are normal. Pressuring glass on spots does not make them disappear. This morning he also had bigger red spot on his arm. Could it be allregies or something more serious. I don't think about meningitis because he has no fever during those 2 weeks and no neurological symptoms. He did fall out of bed about 3,5 weeks ago and hit on his head but no counciness was lost and no neurological signs. Do you think it could be the reason and there are some internal bleeding? I am very very worried even though he acts normal as mentioned.
Let me read your query for few minutes to be able to have a good discussion here.
User:the diet did change because we moved from europe
Doctor:I have gone through your detailed description
User:the full blood test was done actually 2 of XXXXXXX
Doctor:It doesn't sound like allergic reaction
User:even the purple earlobes?
Doctor:sounds more like rosacea
Doctor:Allergic reaction would be associated with itching
User:we did try hydro... cream but does not really help and we have not tried benedryl
User:he does not itch much
User:he had rosacea when he was about 9 months old but with fever
User:I guess I am just worried about meningitis, internal bleeding or leukemia because these were answers when I was googling
User:but no fever and other symptoms like said
Doctor:Meningitis is very unlikely
User:but like said the blood test was fine 2 of XXXXXXX
User:I have it in my hand and blood counts are all ok
Doctor:Please relax
Doctor:it looks more like a viral skin eruption
User:I try it just has been going on 2 weeks plus counting and now the earlobes have purple spots
Doctor:doesn't sound anything like leukemia or internal bleeding or menigitis
User:I see what could I do for that.. I have no pediatrician here yet as we just arrived mid XXXXXXX
User:should we try benedryl
Doctor:have you noticed any association with food?
User:could it be allergies because I am suffering on them as well.. right now they are bad in XXXXXXX
Doctor:Oh I see
User:we are trying to cut out milk right now but doesn't seem to have any effect
Doctor:Yes, there is a possibility of it being allergies
Doctor:Milk is not the only allergen, anything can cause allergy
User:oh and there are no spots on stomach, chest or back just legs, hands and cheeks plus earlobes
User:yes I am aware of that we just were trying to start cutting out milk first
Doctor:It looks like the rash is confined to exposed areas
User:could it be petchea I think it was called that
User:yes it does
User:and do you think it has anything to do with fall on the head 3 weeks ago even there are no neurological symptoms
Doctor:Petechiae happen in case of low platelet counts
Doctor:It has nothing to do with the fall
Doctor:what is the platelet count?
User:and as his blood was normal beginning of XXXXXXX that cant be the case now?
Doctor:you mentioned that these spots/rashes have appeared 2 weeks ago right?
User:the white blood cells were 9,9x10 the upper norm says to be 14 in Europe and lower 5
User:and red blood cells 4.75x10 12/l
Doctor:For young children the upper limit is slightly high
User:you think there are too much white blood cells?
Doctor:what about the platelets?
Doctor:9.9 is quite normal
User:yes they appeared 2 weeks ago and 5 days ago in earlobes
Doctor:And they have not gone away even for a day right?
Doctor:Those are not needed
Doctor:please tell me the platelet counts
User:no not really .. sometimes they show more and sometimes less.. esp on cheeks
Doctor:How do the rashes look like?
Doctor:are they like a wide patch
Doctor:or small pimple like?
Doctor:can you feel them raised above the skin?
Doctor:are you there?
User:small pimple like red spots and purple rash on ear not spotty
User:yes I do feel them when touching him
User:I am trying to translate my countrys blood results .. trying to figure out what shows platet count
Doctor:what is your language?
User:trombcyts were 428x 10 9/l
Doctor:that is it
User:450 shows upper norm
Doctor:and that is also normal
User:neutrophil 14,8 %
User:lymphocyte 76.8 %
Doctor:petechiae can occur only when this thrombocyte counts are less than 1.5x10^3
Doctor:Use Benadryl for two days and see
User:ok I will try
Doctor:if there is no improvement then you should consult a pediatrician
User:and the blood cant change so quickly over 1 month?
User:or 2 months?
Doctor:it can change
Doctor:Your chat time is nearing end
User:so the bloodtest cant really tell me anything right now about his condition
Doctor:You can recharge if you wish
Doctor:This blood test is a little old to be of any value right now
Doctor:You may need to repeat this
User:so the trombocyts can be very low as we speak
User:ok but do you think he has something XXXXXXX
Doctor:But from your description of his rash I do not think it is anything serious
User:ok I will try benedryl for now
Doctor:It is possible for the platelet counts to be low as of now
Doctor:hence it is recommended to see a doctor
Doctor:Thanks for consulting me
Doctor:have a good day ahead
