User:so i have had a rather sudden onset of numbness on both sides surrounded by extreme pain, like someone is pulling a red hot razor across my skin no matter how soft whatever it is that touches it. the area has been getting progressively larger and i am now also having the toes and part of my right foot go numb. went to my primary care doctor and she scheduled a lumbar mri but they are not able to schedule me sooner than XXXXXXX doc said just rest until then and we shall figure it out. i am at a point now where i cannot even walk from my bedroom to my kitchen with pain that is so bad i just want to fall down and cry. it is worse that when i got blown up in iraq.
Let me read your query for few minutes to be able to have a good discussion here.
Doctor:Since how long have you had this pain and numbness?
Doctor:Haven't the doctor prescribe medicines for pain?\
User:started very small area just in thigh about two weeks ago and continues to expand, was given a shot of torado and cortisone and a blister pack of predisone and none of the above has helped at all and she stated that was the limit of what she could do until i had a lumbar mri
User:im at a point where i seriously considering buying a wheelchair just because of how painful it is to even walk
Doctor:Does the pain spread down to your limbs too?
User:yes, just in the legs so far
Doctor:My suggestion at this point would be to fix an appointment with a neurosurgeon (if that's possible).
Doctor:Presence of low back pain spreading down to limbs with numbness and weakness are classical symptoms of lumbar radiculopathy.
User:i tried and none of the offices out here will see me until i have a current mri
User:am i just going to have the pain to deal with or could this advance to something more serious
Doctor:If the weakness that you describe isn't worsening, I feel your condition is stable.
Doctor:You can keep it stable by resting more often and avoiding strenuous physical exercise.
Doctor:Steroid would help relieving the pressure on the nerves
User:everything, pain, weakness and numbness continue to get worse daily
Doctor:but it isn't as effective as other pain medicines.
Doctor:If the pain is very severe and you are unable to tolerate it, I would want you to be started on medicines that lower pain threshold.
Doctor:Perhaps a visit to the ER can fasten the process.
Doctor:Alternatively, I would suggest to call your GP for a referral to a pain medicine doctor.
Doctor:There are good medicines available on prescription to help you deal pain, I think you need to get hold of them.
Doctor:Have you followed what I suggested?
User:yes, i will try, my primary care is through the VA so it is very hard to get anything accomplished, thank you for your time
Doctor:I empathize with your problem and I wish for your recovery soon.
Doctor:Thanks for visiting me here. Bye for now.
