User:I have a metallic taste in my mouth, burning, tingling lips, bluish lips, blood sugar tested ok,not sleepping well, please let me know.
Doctor:Hi there
Doctor:How long has this been going on?
User:good morning
User:2 months
Doctor:OK, now which symptoms started first? The taste? or the discoloration?
Doctor:Understood. Have you ever had any stomach issues? Gas, or heartburn or things of that nature?
Doctor:OK, do you have any sinus issue or allergies?
Doctor:Alrighty. Thanks for the information.
Doctor:I have a theory as to whats going on but you'll have to helpme fill in the blanks.
Doctor:I think you might have a small electrolyte disturbance
Doctor:basically that means some of the salts in your blood are not at their normal level. Tell me, have you had any recent blood work?
Doctor:Could you upload the results?
User:i dont have a copy but might be able to get a copy
Doctor:ok, i think that might help out a bit
Doctor:see this kind of thing is normally either a small electrolyte issue,
User:im working on that now
Doctor:or a hormonal issue
Doctor:since you have no medical issues, i am loath to say that it's a hormonal issue
User:i agree
User:i am 66 years old if that matters
Doctor:ok, understood
Doctor:Oh, another thing i need to check. Do you have any heart issue? Have you had any palpitations or a racing heart beat recently?
Doctor:And is your blood pressure normal?
User:Heart is fine and blood pressure is normal just had a physical two weeks ago the Dr dismissed the symptoms
Doctor:hmmm, well, ok, back to electrolyte imbalances....
User:how is that addressed
Doctor:The first thing is to see if you absorbing your electrolytes correctly. Normally a nutritional deficiency (dietary deficiency) is to blame for these things
Doctor:What the doctor would do (if they saw an electrolyte imbalance on the labs that they did) is send you to a dietician and start you on a multivitamin
Doctor:If that didn't help, they would have to do more blood tests and possibly do an endoscopy
Doctor:But there are alot of 'IF's 'ands' and 'buts' along that road, so it's not so easy to chart out
User:ok Ive have started multi vitmin in the last 2 weeks
Doctor:Ok, thats a good thing.
Doctor:has that affected the symptoms at all?
Doctor:Hmmm. One more question for you? do you have any gum or tooth issues? Difficulty swallowing?
User:not that im aware of but do have a dental appointment next week
Doctor:Ok, the only other thing i can think of is that if you have gingivitis, it would cause the metallic taste as well as lip issues (though the bluish discoloration is tough to blame on gingivitis)
User:will keytosis cause this condition
Doctor:Ketosis will cause a change in your breath (people will smell acetone or a fruity odor on your breath), it will cause confusion and it will cause extreme fatigue.
Doctor:But your blood sugars would have to be through the roof to cause ketosis
User:blood sugar was 94
Doctor:That was on an empty stomach right? (FAsting Blood sugar)
User:yes early Sunday before meal
Doctor:Was it checked at the lab, or with a protable machine?
Doctor:hmmmmm, ok that worries me a bit
Doctor:Those things are notorious
Doctor:Could you do me a favour and get your blood sugars tested at a doctors office?
Doctor:The disease diabetes could cause ALL of your symptoms.. I never brought it up, because i assumed your blood sugars were an FBS from the lab
User:sure may take some time to make an appointment
Doctor:I think it is important to rule that out
Doctor:And if and when it DOES get ruled out, we can get back to the gingivitis, but at least we've ruled out the big stuff
User:so I will be seeing a dentist and in the mean time make an appointment to see the doctor
Doctor:I think that is a good plan of action
User:ok thank you for your time
User:ok thank you
Doctor:Take care sir, I hope you figure this out
