User:I have pain on the left side of my body when I breath. I have had a cold but I am worried that I have something wrong with my lungs because I am a smoker?
Doctor:please give me a moment while I read your query
Doctor:it is possible that something could be wrong with your lungs
User:I took a XXXXXXX seltzer for the pain and it has subsided somewhat
Doctor:since when is this pain present?
User:3 days XXXXXXX
Doctor:Is there any other associated symptoms are cough, difficulty in breathing?
User:a cough but not constant very shall we say rare
User:I don't think I have a problem with my lungs no never have
Doctor:Your symptoms makes it more of a gastritis concern rather than lung disease
User:the whole family has been sick with some sort of ear infection and a cough
User:the pain is in my lower left quadrant beside lets say my bottom rib area
Doctor:this is likely gastritis because of the fact that XXXXXXX seltzer helped you somewhat
Doctor:of course, smoking adds up to the gastritis
Doctor:the location points towards gastritis
Doctor:Continue to take XXXXXXX seltzer
User:But I have it daily and some mucus that is brown when I cough
Doctor:Avoid smoking for few days until the time you feel better
Doctor:Stop smoking for a while then and take bland diet
User:can I ask you something else?
Doctor:You can ask me
Doctor:feel free
User:I had an endrometrial ablation however it is spelled and now I have a fishy smell like all the time I have some medication for that d something or other than I am supposed to use nightly and I do but it continues to come back. With the lichen scheloris I also get an itchy clitoris It is almost so itchy I cant cope. I cant seem to get a grip on either of these issues. Also I have to urinate constantly
User:So I got some pills for an overactive bladder from the doctor
User:I feel I need to see a urologist because the obgyn hasn't really solved all the issues do you think that would be a good start?
User:I have had a pap smear, a test of my vaginal area and it came back fine
User:ok Im done
Doctor:Yes, you should see a urologist for this, it would be ideal
Doctor:the overactive bladder can be better addressed by a urologist
Doctor:The other symptoms point towards bacterial vaginosis
User:I have been reading a lot about women with similar problems on the internet and a lot of them suggested a probiotic for this so I bought one especially designed for those female problems but my mother thinks those are a bad idea to take your thoughts?
User:the doctor says I do not have bacterial vaginosis
User:the gynecologist says I have lichen sclerosis and the smell is because I had the ablation done
User:very dry also there
Doctor:In my view, probiotics are good
User:another symptom that is apparently due to the ablation
User:Ok I will continue to take them
Doctor:Sure, probiotics are definitely good
Doctor:please continue them
Doctor:The smell from ablation cannot last longer
User:They always test me for vaginosis and that is not the problem
Doctor:how long is this smell present for?
User:all the time
Doctor:I agree that lichen sclerosis can cause these symptoms as well
User:then I use the medication for the 5 nights its prescribed for and it goes away but comes back again over and over.
User:So I am itchy, smelly ,dry and sick of this whole deal its endless
User:You realize I'm going to keep you here for the rest of this session right?
User:So how does one handle lichen sclerosis then?
Doctor:Currently, ultra-potent topical corticosteroids are the medical treatment of choice for lichen slerosus
User:I have those
User:they help but not with the fishy smell
User:so I have nidagel for that
Doctor:You see, this is a chronic disease
Doctor:there is remissions and relapses
User:Im waiting for the remissions because I haven't had many period
Doctor:Therefore treatment could be difficult and for long duration
User:Fair enough
User:My pain is gone now thank you
Doctor:I am glad
Doctor:Keep patience with it
Doctor:continue the treatment and be in regular follow up so that if not complete, atleast partial remission can be obtained
User:I want to ask you something else and its about my daughter who is 16
Doctor:please ask me
User:In Canada doesn't a doctor have to have permission to give a girl of 16 birth control pills. She asked for these because she has started getting bad acne. After being put on an anti depressant Ciprolex
Doctor:the doctor can prescribe
User:And the doctor just gave them to her I'm not happy about that at all for many reasons It gives her the option of being sexually active, I don't think birth control pills are good for anyone
Doctor:provided the doctor has a practicing license
Doctor:Every drug has its own pros and cons
Doctor:A skilled doctor knows how to use them efficiently
Doctor:So, if it is medically valid, there is no harm in prescribing it
User:She does ok well do those interfere with her depression she is already easily irritable and dealing with heavy vaginal discharge which she had a test for and no answer means nothing is wrong but I am worried as she has really heavy discharge
User:Had unprotected penetration like twice arggg
User:But no call back from the doctor about the tests she said she would only call if there was something wrong with the swab she took that was Saturday
Doctor:You could call the doctor's office back
User:Follow up on Tuesday with her so thanks for your time and answers
Doctor:Again, we need to weigh the risk- benefit ration before prescribing any medicine
User:for sure
Doctor:So, the doctor thinks birth control pills has more benefit in your granddaughter than risks
Doctor:My pleasure
User:shes my daughter not my granddaughter anyway Im not happy she is on the pill so I will discuss this with her doctor. Have a great day
