Doctor:How can I help you?
User:hi Dr. XXXXXXX
User:I have a question regarding my mother (she is 70 yrs) are there any symtoms for increase in cholestrol levels ? like tiredness, fatigue??
Doctor:Increased cholesterol termed as hypercholesterolemia is associated with a few factors.
Doctor:These factors are usually related to life style.
Doctor:However they are not directly linked to be a cause of tiredness or fatigue.
Doctor:Tiredness and fatigue are associated with lack of sleep, psychological problems, anemia or other intrinsic medical problems.
Doctor:May I know since when she is having the tiredness / fatigue?
User:for about a week... she also has high blood pressure and does suffer from lack of sleep sometimes....
Doctor:Is she on any medications?
User:telma 40, gluformin xl 500
Doctor:Any thing for high cholesterol?
Doctor:Let me answer your queries in short sentences.
Doctor:1. High cholesterol per se is not linked to be the direct cause of tiredness / fatiguability.
Doctor:2. Since the symptoms has been for short duration and recent other cause that i can think of are
Doctor:a. Some mild infection
Doctor:b. Diabetes per se - fluctuations in blood sugars
Doctor:c. Electrolyte changes - reduced fluid consumption with antihypertensive medications may be a cause
Doctor:d. Reduced sleep
Doctor:e. Age related psychological and nutritional cause.
Doctor:I would suggest you to monitor the progress of her symptoms. And if her general conditions is bothering you
Doctor:we can get a few blood tests such as complete blood count, blood sugar levels, serum electrolytes, creatinine and so on
Doctor:to identify any intrinsic medical problem is the cause.
Doctor:Have you followed what I suggested?
User:some of these tests have been done earlier (about a year back), but i guess they would need to be done again now. She also suffers from inability to hold urination. Pls suggest what test should be done for this.
Doctor:May I know since when has this been?
Doctor:Long term diabetes can cause neuropathic problem resulting in incontinence. However other cause like urinary tract infection, genital problems like lax urinary bladder wall (cystocele), etc. could be the cause.
User:off and on. whenever she is out of home for a 2 to 3 hours and comes back home (if she is sitting for long and then gets up.
Doctor:Only investigations such as blood test (as mentioned above), ultrasound abdomen/pelvis with per vaginal examination done by gynecologist can confirm the cause.
Doctor:In all, I think your mother is due for check up.
Doctor:Consult your physician / gynecologist for the evaluation.
Doctor:Have you followed what I suggested?
User:yes doctor. Thank you - i will give her a print out of your online chat advice and get the medical tests done
Doctor:You are welcome.
Doctor:Thanks for consulting me.
Doctor:Bye for now.
