User :   Hi, I had unprotected sex yest and m afraid to get pregnant so I took the I-Pill. However today again I had unprotected sex. Do I need to take I-Pill again ?
Doctor :   hi
Doctor :   Dr. XXXXXXXX here.
User :   Hello..
Doctor :   I pill in emergency contraceptive to be taken once when there is unprotected intercourse
Doctor :   if the emergency is 'very often' then it is better that you start with regular birth control measures
User :   My basic question is for how long is the IPill effective after its taken ?
Doctor :   I pill will be effective for 24 hours once taken not afdter that
Doctor :   if you have unprotected intercourse within 48 hours of your I pill
User :   Oh ok, so another I Pill needs to be taken for today ? I had taken one yesterday.
Doctor :   then it is recommended that you take one more again and use back up form of birth control (spermicide, condoms) until you get your periods
Doctor :   and after you get your periods start on regular birth control as per your need and suitability
User :   Oh ok, which spermicide would you recommend ?
Doctor :   at what time was th eunprotected intercourse, and after how many hours did you take the I-pill?
Doctor :   when was your last menstrual period?
User :   the intercourse was on 19 June at 4 PM, I tool IPill at 8 30 PM and then second one was on 20th June at 4 PM
User :   it started on 3rd June
Doctor :   how many days menstrual cycle do you have? 28 days? 30 days or more?
Doctor :   are your periods regular?
User :   I have normally 26-27 days
User :   yes
Doctor :   ok, in that case your ovulation period is over some two days back.
Doctor :   so chances of pregnancy happening with the second intercourse is less
User :   Oh ok..
Doctor :   you can avoid taking I-pill again , and wait for your periods to start.
User :   The second intercourse was approx 24 hours after taking the iPill
Doctor :   but make sure you use back up form of birth control until you get your periods
User :   What should I use ?
User :   now ?
Doctor :   and consult your doctor/gynecologist for an examination and find out which birth control will suit you and your needs
Doctor :   you can go ahead with using condoms in combination with spermicide for added protection
User :   Oh ok, but I dont plan to engage in any sexual activity for the next one month. Do I still need to use some protection to ensure I dont get pregnant ?
Doctor :   it is better to be on a regular birth control than to take risks like this episode.
Doctor :   you cannot start with the birth control pills at anytime in your cycle, they should be started at the start of
Doctor :   your menstrual cycle that is to say at the 5th day from the first day of the bleeding
User :   I see.. I will do that when I get my cycle, but is there anything else I should do now ?
Doctor :   now you do not need to do anything since you are at the 19th day of your cycle.
User :   I am on the 16th day i think
Doctor :   in another 7-10 days you should be getting your periods
Doctor :   if your last periods started on 3rd June, you are on 19th day
User :   ohh ok
User :   Thank you so much
Doctor :   have you followed what I have said?
User :   Yes I have. I will consult a Gynaecologist and get a long term contraceptive
Doctor :   is there anything else I can help you with?
User :   Nopes, thank you
Doctor :   thanks for consulting me. bye for now.
User :   Bye bye
User :   Hi
Doctor :   hi.
Doctor :   Are you back?
Doctor :   how can I help you?
User :   Yeah, Just wanted to know the side effects of taking 2 or 3 I-Pills on consecutive days
Doctor :   the side effects will include headache, nausea, vomiting, constipation, possible migraines, mood changes, depression
Doctor :   changes ion hormonal elevsl
User :   And how long can they last ?
Doctor :   and changes in bleeding pattern
Doctor :   they can last until the hormones come out of yor body, for few people it can last upto 48-72 hours
User :   ohh ok
Doctor :   and for some women it can last upto their next normal periods
User :   Oh ok, Thanks
