User :   my brother-in law had a triple bypass 12 months ago. After a recent blood test his doctor has called him in to see him re anaemia. He said there is a big fall and want to give him a colonoscopy??? please explain
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   let me read ur query
Doctor :   may i know his age ?
Doctor :   are u there ?
User :   he is 75 years of age/ blood count had gone down from 11. something to 9.something., he certainly is listless and somewhat depressed.
Doctor :   Usually when a elderly pateint develops anemia, the most common causes include intestinal polyps, diverticulas or tumors that can cause loss of blood in stools
Doctor :   hence a colonoscopy is done to check for any such lesions in the intestines and colon
User :   thanks he has become very frightened and his doctordidnt explain things to him properly. I wont mention tumours to him but willl explain about polyps and diverticulas because I know they can produce blood loss in stools that isnt immediately obvious. many thanks for your help. Roberta
Doctor :   his symptoms seem to be due to anemia and the doctor is doing the right thing by doing a colonoscopy
Doctor :   you are most welcome
Doctor :   you should just let him know that its a simple test done regularly
Doctor :   thanks for consulting me here
Doctor :   take care and bye for now
