User :   Hi,
Im 28 years old, taking brevinor 28.....i recently had a abdominal and pelvic ct scan, and this is what im wondering about ' a bilobed cystic structure is seen adjacent to uterus on left side and thought secondary to ovarian cysts. there may be a right sided ovarian cyst. the cysts measure approx 2cm max dimension.' i just wanted another opinion as my doctor wasnt concerned
Doctor :   Hi
User :   hello
Doctor :   May I know the reason why the scans were performed?
User :   i suffer from anxiety, so i always worry about mu health....initaially to see the reason for my pains in stomach and back......conclusion reads ' no cause for epigastric pain is identified. there is fatty infiltration of the liver with areas of fatty sparing'
User :   just needing some reassurance
Doctor :   May I know your age?
User :   im 28
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Let me brief you.
Doctor :   The lesions as explained by the scan are ovarian cysts.
Doctor :   Ovarian cyst are classified by means of its number and its nature.
Doctor :   And all of these cysts are benign conditions.
Doctor :   They need to be treated if symptoms such as low abdominal pain occur or if the cysts are very huge.
Doctor :   Until, then they just need to be monitored.
Doctor :   This may be the reason for your doctor's silence in mentioning it to you.
Doctor :   So you need not worry.
Doctor :   Get regular scans done probably once in 3-6 months to watch for the progress of the cysts.
User :   the only reason i knew about it was because i always ask for copies of reports, otherwise i would be none the wiser
Doctor :   If the cysts becomes huge or if you develop severe low abdominal pain, then you may need surgical removal of the cysts.
Doctor :   It is good that you obtained the reports of the scan.
Doctor :   Now you know what you need to do.
Doctor :   Do you have any other query?
User :   not really, i was just after piece of i dont have any worries?? and is this very common??
Doctor :   Every one in 20 women have such problems.
Doctor :   And you are not alone.
Doctor :   Do not worry.
Doctor :   You may have once in a while low abdominal cramps secondary to these cysts, however an excruciating pain or persisting/very frequent abdominal cramps is an indication that you need to get these cyst addressed.
Doctor :   In the mean time watch out for the progress of the these cysts by means of regular scans.
Doctor :   Hope I have answered your query.
Doctor :   Do you have any other query?
User :   i dont really have such bad pains these cysts come and go or do they always stay there
Doctor :   Most often they stay.
Doctor :   Like I mentioned in the beginning, cysts are classified by their number.
Doctor :   Hence they can be single or multiple.
Doctor :   Implies that you may have few more cysts coming up.
Doctor :   Again they are concerning problem if you develop the symptoms.
User :   as in, best to get them removed if thye become quite large or excruciating??
Doctor :   Yes.
Doctor :   they can be removes by surgical procedures - both open laprotomy and laproscopic means
Doctor :   if they grow to huge size or when you develop symptoms.
User :   thank you very once again in my case, i need not worry at all??
Doctor :   Yes.
Doctor :   Presently you need to worry.
Doctor :   Do you have any other query?
User :   i need to worry??
Doctor :   Yes
Doctor :   I mean you need not worry.
Doctor :   This is a very commonfeature
Doctor :   and most often do not cause any problem.
Doctor :   Treatment is needed only if you develop the symptoms.'
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   Welcome back.
Doctor :   Hope you have followed what I have said.
Doctor :   Do you have any other query?
User :   thanku i just had to recharge.....yes i have followed that you have been quite helpful and reassuring....sometimes i wonder if its a bad idea to get a copy of doctors reports, as i look into things that they arent even worried about
User :   because of my anxiety i have had a lot of different tests done, and they usually come back good
Doctor :   Before I conclude,
Doctor :   I would like to point out that the size of the cyst seen on the scans are not very large.
Doctor :   And since they are single, so there are high possibilities that they can be a normal corpus luteum appearing as cyst.
Doctor :   So you can be doubly reassured.
User :   thankyou very much
Doctor :   Do you have any other query?
User :   i had a kidney ultrasound a few years back, and then it come back as something like 2.1cm dominant follicle on left ovary, simple cyst is further possibility...i just remembered that, that makes no difference to anything u just told me does it??
Doctor :   Ovarian follicles contain the growing egg.
Doctor :   Multiple follicles grow withing the ovaries competing with each other to release the ovaries.
Doctor :   The follicles that has the best chance to release the ova/egg is referred to as dominant follicles.
Doctor :   Such follicles can grow up to size of 1 to 2 cms in size.
Doctor :   Hence the confusion in the scan reports.
Doctor :   Dominant follicle is normal while a simple cyst is abnormal.
Doctor :   However simple cyst like the present one is again a benign condition and needs no treatment.
Doctor :   Having said, in the present scenario, if your latest scan doesn't reveal your old cyst, then it could have been the dominant follicle.
Doctor :   And if the cyst is the same as the earlier one,
Doctor :   then this is a confirmation of what I said early.
Doctor :   That it is a benign cyst and will not cause problems.
Doctor :   Hope you understood what I said.
Doctor :   Do you have any other query?
User :   yes, i do understand the best i basically in a nutshell, everything you told me before remains the same??
Doctor :   Yes.
Doctor :   The final interpretation is that YOU NEED NOT WORRY.
Doctor :   Do you have any other query?
User :   no for the moment you have satisfied me with the knowledge i need, that really was my only concern
Doctor :   Thanks for consulting me.
Doctor :   Bye for now.
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   Do you have any other query?
