User :   he told me to wait out a couple days
User :   it has been a week of Advil and still hurts
User :   I worry a lot - do you think we are dealing with cancer
Doctor :   May I know your age and gender?
User :   26 - male

Doctor :   Let me first assure you, that your symptoms are not any where close to a cancer.
User :   boy it sure feels like it would
Doctor :   Cancerous lesions often are gradual in development and other symptom of hairing impairment are associated with it.
Doctor :   The following may be the cause for your symptoms.
Doctor :   1. Somatic pain due to psychological factor
Doctor :   2. Chroninc mastoditis
Doctor :   which refers to the inflammation of the mastoids
Doctor :   Let me suggest you few measure that should help you.
Doctor :   1. Continue with the analgesics as suggested by your doctor
Doctor :   2. Watch out for any new symptoms that may develop, symptoms such
Doctor :   discharge from the ear,
Doctor :   impairment in hearing,
Doctor :   persistent ringing sensation in the affected ear.
Doctor :   If any such symptoms develop, you may have to report to your doctor.
Doctor :   3. Avoid cold and refrigerated food products.
User :   the 600mg of ibuprofen does not seem to help at all - my head and ear just burn like crazy- my throat is starting to hurt - wouldnt the antibiotics i took for 20 day cured me ?
Doctor :   4. Good and adequate rest with proper stress management can make a big difference
Doctor :   5. If symptoms are persisting inspite of these measures, then you may need evaluation to rule out viral infections such as herpes.
User :   is what I have serious - should I go back to the doc - do i need a ct scan. - aslo i forgot to tell you that the doc said my ear canal was a little red and irratated
Doctor :   Its probably more due to a chronic infections.
Doctor :   as the name suggests (chronic), the treatment is probably going to be slow.
Doctor :   Hence continue with the treatment as suggested by your doctor.
Doctor :   watch out for any new symptoms that may occur.
User :   so you dont think it is a tumor or cancer - the reason I worry so much is because a friend of mine is a 24 year old female that has aggressive brain cancer
Doctor :   If the symptoms persists inspite of this treatment of another week, then consider getting a second opinion.
User :   Is the head pain normal? the burning?
Doctor :   If its the somatic causes secondary to the psychological factors, then the symptoms need more psychological evaluations.
Doctor :   Are you there?
User :   yes
Doctor :   Have you followed what I have suggested?
Doctor :   Do you have any other query?
User :   im glad i visited with you- I do have a worring problem and am just worried about a tumor or cancer
Doctor :   Its very unlikely to be cancer,
Doctor :   as your symptoms have been acute, and no other symptoms are seen along with it.
Doctor :   Continue with the measures suggested by the doctors.
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   welcome back.
User :   so the burning pain in my head is from the chronic mastoiditis you think
User :   along with the swollen lymph nodes under the ear
Doctor :   The cause of the pain are probably due to chronic inflammation or somatic causes secondary to your anxiety and stress factors.
Doctor :   The symptoms of ear cancers present more with severe ear ache, ear discharge, severe hearing impairment,
Doctor :   loss of appetite and weight reduction.
Doctor :   These symptoms are usually gradual and persists for months together.
Doctor :   Hence its unlikely that your symptoms are cancer related.
User :   ok well when i seen the doc last she said that if the pain does not get better in week then I need a ct scan - what would they be lookingfor
Doctor :   You will find good improvement if you can control your psychological factors, as they can play a crucial role in such symptoms.
Doctor :   CT scan are better diagnostic tool for diagnosis of chronic inflammations.
Doctor :   I would suggest you to continue with the antiinflammatory drug ( Ibuprofen) and the antibiotics as suggested.
Doctor :   Good sleep, meditation and adequate anxiety management can help in controlling the symptoms.
Doctor :   If your symptoms persists, then report to your doctor for reevaluations and if needed for the scans.
Doctor :   Have you followed what I have suggested?
User :   well the anibiotics I have been done with for over a week and the ibuprofens i take every six hours, they dont seem to work but i will follow what you say - thank you
Doctor :   Its very important that you put aside your anxiety,
Doctor :   you will find that your symptoms are better with that.
Doctor :   Incase your symptoms do persist, then get the reevaluations done.
Doctor :   Hope, I have helped you a fair bit.
Doctor :   Do you have any other query?
User :   I understand ---i have been taking lexapro for 2 years for anxiety and is something that I have to battle - but yes thank you
Doctor :   Thanks for consulting me. Bye for now.
Doctor :   I would wish to see, the reports of the CT scan,
Doctor :   if you opt for it.
Doctor :   Please write back to us
User :   ok
