Doctor :   Let me explain to you.
Doctor :   white gel like discharge normally occurs due to hormonal factors especially during the time of ovulation.
Doctor :   these are due to hormone disturbances.
Doctor :   Persistent discharge, non foul smelling one with itching and redness can be sign of infection/inflammation.
User :   Okay, so what caused this?
Doctor :   It is hard to predict the nature of infection without a swab test on the discharge.
Doctor :   Your description are similar to an viral or a fungal infection.
User :   How does one acquire those?
Doctor :   Changes in the vaginal pH can by one factor that can predispose these infections.
User :   My mother is diabetic. What role would diabetes play in this?
Doctor :   High blood sugar is a risk factor
Doctor :   It can predispose you to acquiring the infection.
User :   If this infection treatable over the counter?
User :   If not, would antibiotics take care of it?
Doctor :   Apart from the infection and the inflammatory cause, oestrogen deficiency/progesterone excess can also be a cause of this concern.
User :   Meaning what?
Doctor :   yes, infections can be treated with over the couter antifungal medication, provided other predisposing causes are ruled out.
User :   What do you reccomend?
User :   OTC?
Doctor :   Fluconazole creams
Doctor :   are available as OTC creams
