User :   Hi, my last smear shows a light displasia of the cervix. I am booked in for a biopsy next week and am worried. Is the biopsy going to bring up something more serious? how accurate are smear tests?

User :   Dysplasia is growth of abnormal cells and in uncontrolled way
User :   Frankly speaking it nit a good sign too
User :   Cervical dysplasia involves a sequence of cellular changes from mild to severe that are not yet cancerous but constitute the prelude to cervical cancer.
User :   The treatment depends on the degree of dysplasia. It may include cryotherapy
User :   And conization these two procedures will remove the unwanted cells
User :   Hence avoiding further growth anbd spread
User :   ok,whats the odds of the biopsy identifying a severe dysplasia if the smear identified a light dysplasia?

User :   Yes more common in women aged 30 - 45
User :   Ok
User :   The main causes are Advancing age/ HPV infection / multiple sexual partners.
User :   But in early stages they are treated easily
User :   And can avoid and morbidity
