User :   Hello. I have a problem with my rectum. It has been sore for a few days

User :   My husband took a photo of it and you can see it here.. User :   I have had a little gas and bloating feeling from time to time but no bleeding

Doctor :   Do you have any other medical illness such as chronic cough, diabetes?
User :   I just got over the flu as of last week
User :   but no other problems

Doctor :   A physical examination under good light and per rectal examination is needed for a clear diagnosis, nevertheless. looking at the picture
Doctor :   I can make out that the anal region is inflammed.
Doctor :   This can occur due to fissure or an hemorrhoids.
Doctor :   Let me suggest you few measures that will help you.
Doctor :   1. You can use warm to hot water sit baths to reduce the inflammation and pain.
User :   ok but in regards to what you think it is...will this heal quickly or am I looking at weeks, months ???
Doctor :   They are very effective in both controlling the inflammation and discomfort.
Doctor :   2. Use measures to soften stools.
User :   I do not have a bathtub at the moment. house is getting remodeled so only a shower. :(
Doctor :   Those measures include drinking plenty of water, plenty of fibre diet, Syp Cremaffin 2 tsp after meal at night.
User :   Cremaffin?
Doctor :   It would be better, that you use sit baths. Shower may not help.
Doctor :   Its a laxative.
Doctor :   The are OTC medications.
User :   oh ok
Doctor :   The other alternatives are Syp Lactulose.
Doctor :   the dosage are same.
User :   ok and any idea how long things like this take to heal?
Doctor :   If you don't have a bathtub, you can use a big mouthed bucket or tub alternatively. Showers may not help.
Doctor :   Your symptoms will reduce as the inflammation reduces.
User :   ok
Doctor :   with these measures and along with oral antiinflammatory drugs such as Tab IBUPROFEN 200mg twice a day after food for 2-3 days,
Doctor :   your symptoms should reduce.
User :   and I bought some gel last night for hemorrhoids should I continue with this?
User :   as this is what I thought it could be
Doctor :   You can use them along with these measures.
User :   ok
Doctor :   Apply those gels before and after you pass your stools.
User :   ok
Doctor :   I will also suggest you to consult a proctologist, as you are using these measures.
