User :   i went to a colorectal surgeon to look at a small sore near my anus. (smaller than a pea and larger than a pin head) he said it's a Fistula and recommended surgery to repair it. I have no other symptoms other than the occational draining from the sore, I am not gay or have had anything up my rectum since I had a Colonoscopy about 2 years ago ( two polyps were removed)doctor said everything looks normal! is it possible that the Colonoscopy caused the fistula? How long can I wait before having it done? it is small is there less complications? will it get bigger? I no longer get hemroids once the Fistula appeared, does this mean something?
Doctor :   the fistula is a common complication of hemorroids
Doctor :   when you were treated for the hemorroids, may be the fistula was not yet there
Doctor :   and it slowly got formed later
Doctor :   did you continue to have constipation and other symptoms after your surgery?
User :   I was never treated fo hemroids
Doctor :   ok
User :   I never had sugery!
Doctor :   colonoscopy will not cause a fistula.
Doctor :   I am sorry I misunderstood your visit to the colorectal surgeon for surgery
User :   never constipated!
Doctor :   and you said that 2 years back 2 polyps were removed, which I misunderstood as a surgical procedure
User :   ok
Doctor :   what symptoms do you have at present?
User :   what is the best method to fix?
Doctor :   did your treating doctor mention the size of the fistula (dimension)
User :   smaller than a pea larger than a pin head
Doctor :   fistula is best treated surgically, otherwise it can get bigger and cause more complications. early treatment is recommended.
User :   can hemroids cause this?
Doctor :   hemorrhoids are known to cause it and be associated with it.
Doctor :   what were the polyps that were removed? were they sent for biopsy after removal to look for the histology?
User :   I know there is several methods to treatment which would you recommend?
Doctor :   what symptoms did you have at the time of your last colonoscopy for polyp removal?
Doctor :   what were the polyps that were removed? were they sent for biopsy after removal to look for the histology?
User :   no, they were not he said they looked normal!
Doctor :   the fistula treatment depends on the type of the fistula it is.
Doctor :   the route of the fistula is checked and then closure attempted
Doctor :   the best treatment is surgical closure with antibiotic use
User :   do you know how much it cost?
Doctor :   the surgery could be to drain a fistula if pus is found to be draining
Doctor :   or it could be to close it if no active pus drainage is seen
Doctor :   the cost would depend on the institution
Doctor :   it will be more in a private institution as compared to governmental one
User :   is that normal for a polyp not to be biopsy
Doctor :   average cost would be around 300$
User :   this was done by a colorectol surgeon
Doctor :   no it is not normal , not to be biopsied, it should be done to make sure that it was abnormal one.
Doctor :   ok
