Doctor :   Hi
User :   hi
Doctor :   I am Dr. XXX
User :   did you gt my query
User :   wget
Doctor :   Sorry
Doctor :   Please type it
User :   we had a baby girl on 16/8/10. Doctors told that she had a condition of positional talipes in her right foot. A physio had seen her and recommened down and In massages. A physio will see her in 1 months time. we are very worried. how serious is this issues. what complications can this have on the baby. Can this have walking disability
User :   did you get my query
Doctor :   Not to worry
User :   what do you mean
Doctor :   This is called CTEV or Club foot in lay man words
Doctor :   This is the most common orthopedic problem in children
Doctor :   1 to 3 out of 1000 births can have this
User :   how is it cured
User :   natural process, surgery, plaster or what
User :   i mean massages
Doctor :   There are two kinds, one is structural because of bones and joint problem
Doctor :   the other is postural due to imbalance and weakness of muscles
Doctor :   Most probably your baby would have got structural one
Doctor :   Mild to moderate club foot can be treated with splints, strapping, taping or with special shoes
User :   we not sure at the moment
Doctor :   Ofcourse physiotherapist interventions are must
User :   how can i know if its structurl or posturl
Doctor :   The doctor can say after examinaiton
Doctor :   If it is postural it takes some time for the diagnosis to be made
Doctor :   since the diagnosis is already made I guess it is structural
User :   what do you call this examination?
Doctor :   Normal physical examination by Orthopedics called Musculoskeletal examination
User :   How soon the babies should go on strapping or special shoes? why is the doc here just said continue massages for a month and then a physio
User :   what does it tell about the severity of the problem
Doctor :   IT says it is mild problem
Doctor :   All the club foot treatment would not be same
Doctor :   Mild ones go with just physio massages
Doctor :   Moderate ones require the above things that I say
Doctor :   There is an order for manipulation
Doctor :   Since there are structurally three deformities in classical club foot. All may not be present in every one. In a classical deformity the order of correction goes thus , First the adduction part then the supination and followed by third deformity
Doctor :   If the correction or manipulations are resistant then the next thing is surgery
Doctor :   This is known by serial Xrays after initiation of splints and massagges
Doctor :   The time you can wait is 6 to 8 weeks
Doctor :   So the key is initiation of therapy as early as yoiu can after birth
Doctor :   In addition you should also be trained by Physio, how to do and what is not correct
User :   as a parent what are the things i should worry and what are the questions i should ask a physio or even a midwife
Doctor :   As a parent you should understand that this is common
Doctor :   and it is easily treatable
Doctor :   You should know the progressive massages and exercises from the physio
Doctor :   You should just be cautious about the getting the serial Xrays done following with the Orthopedician
Doctor :   or examination done
Doctor :   every week or as directed by Orthopedics
Doctor :   surgeron
User :   ok
User :   thanks
User :   our time is up
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Do not worry
User :   thanks for the info
Doctor :   Thanks for consulting me
