Doctor :   hello
User :   Hello Doctor, how to treat the toe-nail fungus. My big foot is affected, it has grown very thick, blackened, and I am sure its fungus....
User :   Its only the big foot, and not the other nails....
User :   Hello
Doctor :   may i know your age and gender ?
User :   Age = 33, Gender = male
Doctor :   do you have any other medical condition ?
User :   Right now - nope, no other medical condition
Doctor :   since how long you have been having this
User :   Well, I am having this for the past 1 year or so, but I didn't care about it. Only now that I have realised it, and want to do something about it, because it has grown thick and ugly
User :   It has grown thick slowly and gradually
User :   and crumbly in some parts on the side/crevices....
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   its just on one foot ?
User :   Yes, just the right foot (thumb/bigfoot)
Doctor :   have you applied any medication on it ?
User :   and the fungus is limited to only the nail, skin has not been affected.... The toenail has become thick like a bone, and I am unable to cut/trim it
User :   No, I have not applied anything....
Doctor :   ok now first of all i need to advice you that its not correct to ignore a infection for so long
Doctor :   if left untreated, can progress to a more severe infection of the entire toe
User :   Okay apologies.....
Doctor :   there are many causes for it
Doctor :   caused by common skin bacteria entering the skin around the nail that has been damaged by trauma, or damp shoes
User :   Well around 3 years ago, my big foot was operated due to an ingrowing thumb nail, and the nail was removed. When the nail grew again, it was growing OK, but I think after a while, it started catching this fungal infection and grew thick over these 3 years....
Doctor :   you do need to see a dermatologist as soon as possible
User :   Okay
User :   Anything else, which you might suggest that I do as a home remedy
Doctor :   Care at home includes warm soaks in a mixture of 50% warm water and 50% liquid antibacterial soap 3-4 times daily for about 15 minutes.
Doctor :   you would be given a anti fungal cream to apply on by the dermatologist
Doctor :   dont worry this condition is completely curable
User :   Okay... and what are your views on using Hydrogen Peroxide to use on the nail ?
Doctor :   not at this moment . right now whats required is a physical examination to asses the severity
User :   Okay, right - Thanks.
Doctor :   your most welcome
Doctor :   take care
Doctor :   and be careful next time
User :   Yep, Thanks
