User :   I had a blood test a couple of weeks ago and got my results in. My RBC was 3.10, hemoglobin 9.5, hematocrit 28, plateelets 102 and iron was 146. I am a 38 year old white female and am in good health. Had a hysterectomy 3 years ago. When I questioned my doctor on why out of all the results, why were all these so low, I was told just to take some iron pills. I am exhausted all the time, the bottom of my back always aches, very forgetful and I do take multi vitamins everyday. I plan on going to another doctor for a second opinion. Do you think I have reason for concern?
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   Let me read it
Doctor :   I am Dr.XXX here
User :   ok. Thank you.
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Have you had any major bleeding of late?
User :   no. nothing notable.
User :   Mostly very tired
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Your tiredness can be attributed to the low blood counts
Doctor :   Did you have fever in the recent past?
User :   If I was anemic, wouldn't my iron be much lower?
User :   no fevers. Oh and my WBC was 5.7. So nothing out of range
Doctor :   You are anemic
User :   I do have hot flashes as well
Doctor :   but cant be said due to iron defeciency
Doctor :   since iron levels are fine
Doctor :   but your platelet counts are low
Doctor :   thats why I asked about any bleeding or fever
Doctor :   if the redblood cells formation is low
Doctor :   or destruction is high
Doctor :   then iron levels seem to be normal or rather high
Doctor :   with low counts in other parameters
Doctor :   can you tell me other hematological values
User :   9.7
Doctor :   like MCV, MCHC,etc
User :   MCV 90, MCH 30.5, MCHC 34.1, RDW 13.4
User :   I that what you wanted?
Doctor :   yes
Doctor :   Fine
Doctor :   they are normal
Doctor :   Do you have gastric problem?
User :   no. Just fine in that area.
Doctor :   Ok
User :   Is it possible there is just something wrong with the test?
Doctor :   cant be said with certainty
Doctor :   the tests are not very much deviant
Doctor :   if the parameters are seen as a whole
Doctor :   was it done in a good laboratory setup?
User :   Yes.
Doctor :   Fine
Doctor :   For now, I would suggest you to go with iron supplements
Doctor :   and repeat the test
Doctor :   after a month
User :   I am going for a second opinion today. I just need to know everything is ok.
Doctor :   to see the progress
Doctor :   One glad thing is that
Doctor :   your values are not seriously low
Doctor :   it is just a bit low
Doctor :   which should be improvised, though
User :   That's true.
Doctor :   Are you meeting a physician today?
User :   Yes, this afternoon. Just can't get this out of my head. I am a mother of 5 and just need to know everything is ok
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   When was your last delivery?
User :   17 years ago. 3 of my children are adopted
Doctor :   Ok
User :   thank you
Doctor :   Is there any thing else I can help you with?
User :   Nope. That's about it!
