User :   I have a pulsation in my belly about three inches above my belly button. It coincides with my heart beat and is noticed most when I lie down. I also had some abdominal pain. I had an abdominal ultra sound but it was clear. I have been put on anti anxiety medication recently because of my anxiety over all of this. Should I request that my doc order a CT to rule out an aneurysm?
Doctor :   hi
Doctor :   Dr. XXXXXXXX here.
Doctor :   let me read what you have typed
User :   OK. Thanks.
Doctor :   please provide your age, gender, height, weight, details of past medical illness and treatment if any.
User :   Ager, 21.....Male....5'11".....weight 235 lbs.....
User :   I have been diagnosed with epilepsy but have been seizure free for 10 years and just recently came off my medication
Doctor :   ok
User :   I also have high blood pressure which i take meds for
Doctor :   are you on any medication for anxiety?
Doctor :   since when you are having the symptoms of pulsation?
Doctor :   since how long you have been taking medication for high BP? is the BP under control?
User :   well I had some stomach pains about two weeks ago....they turned into a panic attack that night
User :   I felt better the next day about 10 days later the pains returned so i went to the doc and was put on some meds for acid reflux
Doctor :   the aneurysm if present would have been detected by the ultrasound scan too as retro peritoneal swelling and pulsation.
User :   that didn't help so i went back to the doc and he ordered bloodwork and an ultrasound to rule out gallstones and pancreatitus
Doctor :   do you feel that these pulsations are more visible when you have the anxiety?
User :   perhaps.....I am taking anxiety meds and have klonopin on hand
Doctor :   ok
User :   even with those meds in me i notice the pulsation
Doctor :   ok.
Doctor :   try to correlate when the pulsations are more, i mean to see if there is any stress or anxious situation around you.
Doctor :   try and observe if they are present when you are completely relaxed
User :   well like right now i notice them.....
User :   i feel decently relaxed at the moment
Doctor :   if the pulsations are found to be present when you are lying down completely relaxed
Doctor :   then the possibility of any retro peritoneal mass or aneurysm should be ruled out.
Doctor :   another possibility could be the high blood pressure
Doctor :   leading to the pulsations
User :   high BP could do that?
User :   it has been elevated recently
Doctor :   so make sure that your BP is well controlled
User :   about 150/90
Doctor :   follow diet changes with low salt, low fat, low oil diet
User :   would a CT be the best way to rule those things out?
User :   yes I am working on the diet. I have lost about 30 lbs so far.
Doctor :   take your medications on time, if the BP is not controlled with the current dose of medications, then revision of dosage should be considered.
Doctor :   so report to your treating doctor, and request for BP monitoring twice a day for 3-5 days to see if it is getting controlled with current medication use
Doctor :   if it is found to be elevated consistently, even with taking the anxiety medications correctly
Doctor :   then revision of dosage for BP should be considred
User :   OK I will do that. If the BP gets under control and the pulsation continues should I request a CT?
Doctor :   with the change in dosage of BP medications, if the pulsations are taken care of, then you will not need the CT scan
Doctor :   but if even with altered dose of BP meds, and with full BP control, the symptoms persist, then
Doctor :   request your treating doctor for an abdominal CT to rule out retro peritoneal mass and aneurysm
Doctor :   have you followed what I have said?
User :   Yes I have. I just am worried that since the symptoms have come on so fast that I don't want to waste to much time finding out.
User :   Aneurysms really frighten me!
Doctor :   yes, I can understand that
Doctor :   follow the recommendations as above. you will be able to find out the cause
Doctor :   and get it treated soon
Doctor :   is there anything else I can help you with?
User :   Nope I think that is it.
User :   Thanks so much!
Doctor :   thanks for consulting me. bye for now.
Doctor :   take care. do not worry. focus on finding the cause
User :   will do. Thanks
Doctor :   thanks for consulting me. bye for now.
