User : A few weeks ago the bridge of my nose and behind my right eye went numb and tingled. Right as this occurred, I experienced some diarrhea. The next day, I began to feel strange (out of body, especially when moving or driving) and experienced light sensitivity and floaters. The tingling went away, but then I began to notice tingling in my legs (only when I am wearing jeans, which tend to be on the tighter side for me), and now when I press on the nerve inside my elbow my entire right arm will tingle. I feel as though I am walking in a cloud, and I have anxiety which doesn't help the problem. I feel some slight cognitive dysfunction (some slight memory loss, strange feelings), and as I am falling asleep I have strange thoughts that I can't remember a few seconds later that make absolutely no sense in situations that don't exist. I had a brain MRI with and without contrast and they found absolutely nothing. All that has showed up abnormal is my red blood cells, hemoglobin, and hematocrit, which the hematologist doesn't feel are related to this. Any suggestions for me on the next step or any idea of what this sounds like?
Doctor : Hi
Doctor : let me read
Doctor : in the blood work up was calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, levels were checked ?
User : yes.
User : everything was normal except for the blood counts.
User : I am almost positive this is a neurological issue.
Doctor : from when you are suffering from anxiety ?
Doctor : yes it is a neurological issue
User : sorry, i didn't understand the question.
Doctor : but what is causing it that needs to be made out
User : yes, well the MRI was normal and I don't understand what else this could be
User : I am panicking that I might have some form of brain tumor, but my neurologist assured me it would have showed up in the MRI
Doctor : yes MRI IS DONE TO DETECT BRAIN TUMOR
Doctor : if MRI is NORMAL than there is no brain tumor
Doctor : do not worry about the tumor
Doctor : the point you made out that the entire arm tingles when you press the nerve at elbow
Doctor : goes in favor or hyper exciatible nervous tissue
User : what would explain the light sensitivity and the strange mental sensations?
User : which did happen at the exact same time, so I am sure they are related
Doctor : you said you have anxiety
Doctor : from when you have this anxiety ?
User : I've had anxiety my entire life
User : I have never experienced sensations like these
Doctor : ok
Doctor : anxiety, vitamin deficiency, blood electrolytes all can give rise to these kind of sensations and symptoms
Doctor : the pattern of the symptoms do not go n favor of any tumor lesion - be assured it is not tumor
Doctor : please provide me the details of abnormality in the blood test
User : my hemoglobin was 18
User : my RBC and hematocrit were also high, the numbers of those I am not positive
Doctor : what did your neurologist say ?
User : I haven't informed him of these numbers, but the hematologist said that he is pretty sure they are not related
Doctor : yes it is not related because for the numbers if at all any symptoms occur it should be in the form of stroke kinds
Doctor : in your the symptoms are more of an deficiency kinds
Doctor : was an ECG taken ?
User : they didn't detect any kind of deficiency except for a vitamin D
User : and no, no ECG was taken
User : I am unsure of what an ECG is
Doctor : ECG is nothing but EKG that they take when somebody has chest pain
Doctor : right so there is vitamin d deficiency
User : yes, but the doctor wasn't under the impression that that is responsible for my mental state being altered
Doctor : it should be vitamin b complex like thiamine, b12 frolic acid deficiency which has an effect on the nervous tissue
Doctor : also vitamin d deficiency means it has a role in calcium ion
Doctor : so there might be some disturbance in calcium
User : my calcium came back fine.
Doctor : this can cause the neurological symptoms you are having now
User : keep in mind that the tingling and numbness across the face stayed for three straight days
Doctor : was it ionised calcium or unionised calcium ?
User : I am unsure
Doctor : i am very well aware of your symptoms
User : can a deficiency truly play a role in the floaters and light sensitivity?
Doctor : yes it can
User : what makes you not believe that this is a brain tumor?
Doctor : what makes you to belive it is a brain tumor ?
User : the strange sensory sensations, the vision changes, the tingling, floaters
User : is there any way an MRI can miss something like that?
Doctor : no MRI cannot miss
User : what about multiple sclerosis?
Doctor : MRI has not picked any abnormality means no anatomical lesion - so no tumor or no multiple sclerosis
User : what about the spine?
User : the mri did not include the spine
Doctor : what symptoms you have that is related to spine ?
User : well I have read that anything going wrong in the spine can cause nerve dysfunction like I am experiencing
Doctor : you know what a nerve dysfunction means ?
Doctor : weakness to
complete paralysis of the region of body supplied by the nerve involved
User : well nerve problems anyway
User : what about lymphoma? if there was a lymphoma of the brain, this would have also showed up on the MRI as well?
Doctor : yes it will show up
User : i thought you need a biopsy and that is the only way to diagnose lymphoma
Doctor : biopsy of what and where ?
Doctor : if a lesion is found on the MRI than a biopsy will be done on the lesion
Doctor : if no lesion in MRI no question of biopsy
User : okay
User : is there another scan that I should look into to detect neurological issues?
User : what about lyme disease?
Doctor : i dont see any symptom of Lyme disease in you
Doctor : you can go for CSF analysis
Doctor : to know whether there is any neurological abnormality
Doctor : it is the removal of fluid from the spine and analyzing it
Doctor : no other scans will be of help at present when MRI has not picked any lesion
