User :   I realize I should not stop a antibiotic regimen mid-way, but I taking 2: azithromycin and ciprodex.
I do not like the ciprodex and would like to know any downside to stopping it after 4 doses.
Doctor :   Hi,
User :   are you familiar with ciprodex?
Doctor :   Well there is no recent harm in stopping the antibiotic
User :   no recent harm?
User :   how do you mean "recent"
Doctor :   Bit since Ciprodex contains Dexamethosone
Doctor :   but*
Doctor :   its not advisable to stop ciprodex without tapering the course
User :   why is that?
Doctor :   I mean stopping antibiotics before the scheduled dose period or irregular dosing will lead to development of resistance in the bacteria to that antibiotic
Doctor :   Steroids like dexamethosone will have withdrawal effects hence have to be tapered
User :   got it. how to I best go about tapering?
Doctor :   May i know what form of ciprodex are you on ?
User :   ear drops (sterile otic suspension)
Doctor :   May i know the present dosage ?
User :   3 drops every 12 hours... but I did NOT take any at today's scheduled 8am time frame
Doctor :   do not stop abruptly
Doctor :   continue the same dosage for next 24 hours
Doctor :   and then make it 2 drops every 12 hours
Doctor :   for 2 doses
Doctor :   and then 2 drops of one per day dose for two days and then stop it
User :   so, on the instructions, it says that if you miss a session, and are close to the time of the next scheduled session, skip it. (it is now 14:44 local time) Therefore, I should take 3 drops at 20:00, 2 drops at 08:00, 20:00 tomorrow then 2 drops 08:00 for the next 2 days?
Doctor :   yes,
User :   got it. thank you.
Doctor :   You are welcome
User :   take care,
Doctor :   Thanks for consulting me , kindly provide your feedback
