User :   hello
User :   hi
Doctor :   let me read ur query
Doctor :   you are not at risk for HIV
Doctor :   hiv IS DETECTED on the basis of serological tests
User :   what is serlogical test,
Doctor :   like ELISA and pcr
Doctor :   they detect HIV antibodies and ahiv RNA
Doctor :   in your case u r not symptomatic not you have any risk at all
Doctor :   u do not ahve HIV
User :   symptotic??
Doctor :   ** have
Doctor :   symptomatic means, that you dont have any symptoms of HIV
User :   what are the obvious symptoms of HIV and after how many months u see them
Doctor :   usually in normal individuals, HIV presents in a acute HIV as fever, loss of weight, persistatn diarrhea, enlarged lymph nodes, skin rashes etc
User :   after how many month one should start to see them
Doctor :   mind you u will see these symptoms within 6-12 weeks
Doctor :   of exposure
User :   OIC,is it true, HIV test can cuase you "infection"
Doctor :   also since you have had no symptoms in the last 1 yr, you are not at risk at all
Doctor :   HIV test cannot cause infection, but can detect the infection
Doctor :   ELISA detects HIV antibodies within 4-6 weeks of exposure
User :   ok, in annual medical check up, can HIV be detected
Doctor :   PCR for HIV detects the same within 10-12 days
Doctor :   yes
Doctor :   it can be
User :   in normal blood test??
Doctor :   no
Doctor :   this is a deifferent blood test for HIV
User :   is there any very basic, quick test??
User :   availablein canada
Doctor :   a PCR test for HIV is available that detects HIV within 12 days of exposure,
Doctor :   but in you since the exposure was 1 yr back, the results will be availbel within 1 -2 hrs with ELISA itself
User :   I mean which can tell you rightaway if some one is inected or not??
Doctor :   yes that is right
User :   does normal blood test triggers some alarm to physician that something else should be tested?
Doctor :   yes , it does, but sometimes those are very nonspecific and do not give proper signs
Doctor :   and docs do not depend on them
User :   ok, but ELISA is controversial test based on cut-off,is'nt it??
Doctor :   no
Doctor :   who said it is a controversial test
Doctor :   it has a sensitivity of 99.99%
User :   oic, i apologize for my ingnorance, i read on internet. In nut shell your saying " in case of infection sypmtoms should have appaerared 6-12 weeks of exposure" and person should see a doctor, correct
Doctor :   yes, inc ase u have symptoms and u suspect them to be of HIV
Doctor :   BUT in your case, the risk of exposure is very less , less than 0.1 %
User :   u mean getting HIV from oral is .1 %
Doctor :   since the woman is ur friend, and healthy, and it was a oral , the risk of infection is less
Doctor :   yes
Doctor :   that is right
User :   and time frame of sypmtoms to appaear is 6-12 weeks max or min??
Doctor :   minimum
User :   what is max
Doctor :   but in normal individuals, most have the symptoms within 12 weeks of exposure
Doctor :   12 weeks would be the maximum in most
User :   u think i am fine
User :   as
Doctor :   yes, you are fine
User :   thanks, i told i am paranoid, am I not??
User :   lol
Doctor :   yes, people can get anxious regarding HIV
