User :   My neurosurgeon is recommending a lapidectomy, diskectomy and spinal fusion for DDD, a small right herniation that I had since 2008 and a new left much larger paracentral disk herniation that is contacting my S-1 nerve all on L5/S1. Its been 11 weeks of PT and Chiro, etc since this new left herniation happened- still can't really sit down for more than 1/2 hour but much longer with a back brace and sitting is very specific to the chair. I still have the pain - far less intense than the first 6 weeks -but cannot get the burning pain near my tailbone and in my left buttock to go away. He said my ddd is significantly worse than a 2008 MRI when I had the right herniation he stated - but I am trying to see if it will it heal with time and exercise? Is the fusion necessary? I have had back aches for years and just sucked it up, but this pain is obvisouly different - I am a 43, physically fit, active woman and want to make the right choice.

Doctor :   the number matters
