User :   my 16 year old son has been a vegetarian since age 3. he is facing open heart surgery in June, with a second heart surgery planned in August. Are there nutritional considerations that will help him be at his healthiest for surgery? In other words, supplements or should he start eating some meat?
Doctor :   hello
User :   hi
Doctor :   how is your son's health ?
User :   In general, good. But he has hypertension caused by two areas of coarctation of the aorta- recently diagnosed.
Doctor :   i see
Doctor :   and his weight height ratio?
User :   6 foot 2, 188 pounds
Doctor :   well there is NO medical concern in any way that being a non vegetarian will have any added benefits .if his diet is well balanced then there is nothing to worry about
User :   any supplements that could help in recovery?
Doctor :   post surgery some supplements are given
Doctor :   like multi vitamins
Doctor :   but then again its all based on how well the recovery is going
User :   that makes sense. I think my concern lies in vitamin B deficiences.
Doctor :   but there is nothing to be concerned
Doctor :   the highest concentration of VITAMIN B lies in green vegetables
User :   alright... i know as a teenager, his diet is full of carbs, and low on green vegetables... I'll focus on cleaning that up rather than the meat his grandmother is CONVINCED he needs.
Doctor :   LENTILS are rich source of proteins
User :   thank you very much.
