User:I am 29 yr old, male
User:last week I was diagnosed with inguinal hernia
User:but that doctor said that operation is not required as of now
User:I just wanted to a second opinion
Doctor:May I know what type of inguinal hernia you have diagnosed with?
User:I hv a small bulge around my right side in groin area
User:its visible when I am standing
User:while lieng on bed..its not visible
User:I don't hv any pain
Doctor:May I know the size of the bulge?
User:I don't know the exact size
User:but its small
Doctor:Basically depending on the type of hernia the treatment is preferred.
Doctor:as your bulge disappears on lying down i feel its a direct hernia.
Doctor:and depending on the size i would feel that any hernia the best treatment would be surgery.
User:but how long surgery should be avoided?
Doctor:Its a day care surgery and you would be discharged the same day.
Doctor:and start working from the next day.
Doctor:only instruction would be to avoid weight lifting for a month and straining yourself.
User:but my doctor advised me not to go for surgery as of now and just wait
Doctor:That would differ from doctor to doctor
Doctor:But the medical literature says the best treatment is surgery.
Doctor:As further it might go for complication like obstruction and strangulation.
Doctor:in which happens then the contents might have to be excised.
Doctor:so please see another surgeon.
User:so no matter how much small it is now.. I should go for surgery?
Doctor:Yes, thats what the medical literature says.
Doctor:and you can take a second opinion from another surgeon who will examine you.
Doctor:Are there any more queries for me to help you with?
User:but with the hernia, can I wait for 2-3 months as I might need to go outside XXXXXXX for work.. is there any risk?
Doctor:No problems.
Doctor:you can wait
Doctor:and only thing would be to avoid weight lifting, straining
User:and before it was detected I used to run daily for 5 or 6 kms .. can I continue doing that now?
Doctor:and if excessive cough is there then get it treated as early as possible.
Doctor:Yes you can follow the same routine.
Doctor:Do you have any more queries for me?
User:and as I am married..i can continue with my normal sex life with the hernia?
Doctor:Yes, that shouldn't be a problem.
