User:hi I am experiencing modest discomfort in my penis when urinating with on and off bleeding usuallythe blood precedes the urine flow but sometimes the blood just leaks out and drips everywhere - i am on antibiotics for 24 hours but still plenty of blood
User:hey doc
Doctor:It seems that the source of blood is urethra
User:just grasping for answers my regular doctor hasnt provided much detail and bleeding is making me nervous
User:yes it does seem like the urethra
User:every time I think it is slowing down it starts again
User:i have actually been forced to wear sanitary napkin during the day to avoid staining my pants..
User:any thoughts?
User:you there?
Doctor:The usual cause is tones in urethra or some other type of trauma
User:do antibiotics clear the bleeding quickly?
User:so what happens generally?
Doctor:But it will keep you from getting an infection
Doctor:I think you need some tests to figure out the cause
User:so how long may I continue bleeding?
Doctor:Most bleeds stop spontaneously
Doctor:If you continue to bleed
Doctor:you can be given medicines to stop the bleed
User:what kind of medicine does that?
Doctor:Something like tranexemic acid
Doctor:These medicines can be used to stop bleeds
Doctor:But better way is to find the cause
User:took blood tests and urine tests with no real conclusions other than alot of white blood cells in my urine
Doctor:The first test would be an ultrasound of the kidney, ureter bladder
Doctor:WBC in urine mean infection
User:but infection itself doesnt cause the bleeding and clots?
Doctor:In such a case a urine culture and sensitivity should also be done
User:culture and sensitivity what does that mean?
Doctor:Infection of bladder can cause it
Doctor:culture is to get the bacteria
Doctor:sensitivity is to test their sensitivity to antibiotics
User:eColi or something like that? but does that cause the bleeding? infection of bladder? if so how long does this usually continue?
User:i know I have fifty questions, sorry
Doctor:I understand
Doctor:Yes the infection can be because of ecoli - most common
Doctor:though there can be other bacteria too
Doctor:Infection of urinary bladder-cystitis
Doctor:It should resolve if the correct antibiotics are given
User:i suppose seeing a urologist makes sense rather than leaving this to my reg doc
Doctor:He is also well educated to solve it
User:I am now on 750MG of LevoFloxacin daily
Doctor:Atleast the basic tests will be done by him until you get an appointment for urologist
User:yah I already did the basics and got the pills
Doctor:The antibiotic is ok
Doctor:But it does not seem to be working
User:ok thats good...
Doctor:So either the bacteria is resistant
User:only taking it one day so far
Doctor:or the cause is something else
User:how many days until it should take effect?
Doctor:antibiotics usually take 3 days to work better
User:so I guess wait until Sunday and if still bleeding go see a urologist next week..? agree?
Doctor:I am not sure how much you are bleeding
User:well usually just a little preceding urination but this morning for example after urinating blood kept dripping out non stop for several minutes just dripping but enough to make a mess
Doctor:if it is too much than may see your doctor sooner
User:sometimes when I urinate more blood comes out on and off
User:tough to judge what too much is??
Doctor:It seems to be increasing
Doctor:I guess you may see your doctor
User:its enough to need to change sanitary napkins twice a day
Doctor:so that he may do something in time
User:ok I guess not much more you can tell me
Doctor:You can ask specific questions
User:ok thanks for your help -
Doctor:Thanks for consulting
Doctor:You too have a great time
