User:I have been diagnosed with stage1 B1cervical cancer. My PET/CT scan cam back with tumor less than 4 cm on cervix. No surrounding tissues or lymph nodes are involved. What are my treatment options besides a radical hysterectomy. How do I find a doctor who will do a full hysterectomy instead, with out taking the pelvic lymph nodes or the surrounding pericardium.
Doctor:Your options include a radical hysterectomy
Doctor:and total hysterectomy
Doctor:As for finding a doctor who can do that, it is difficult
User:The gym/oncologist I have met with seems adamant on only doing a radical hysterectomy for stage1 b1. I am not willing to risk the side effects of nerve damage and lymphodema I climb mountains as my hobby.
User:Where can I go to seek a doctor who is open to that?
Doctor:In that case you can opt for a total hysterectomy
Doctor:followed by radiotherapy and chemotherapy
Doctor:if the nodes are not involved, then all of the distant nodes need not be removed
User:If that is the case it wouldn't make sense as the other option I was given was radiation therapy and chemo without any surgery.
Doctor:the surgeon can limit the node excision to the surrounding area only
Doctor:There are many options
Doctor:You can go for total hysterectomy followed by chemotherapy or radiotherapy
Doctor:Your gyneonclogist seems to be overly cautious one
User:that would be good. What is you opinion about the surrounding connective tissue
Doctor:Since the stage is 1 B1, without any node involvement on PET scan
Doctor:there is no need to explore beyond the close proximity
Doctor:If the stage and grade was higher, then yes, the doctor would be justified in clearing off all the draining lymph nodes
User:So I should just start looking for a doctor who will support those options and not be forced into something I do not want or believe in.
Doctor:In my opinion you should look for a more amenable doctor
User:Any idea how to do that without having to talk or meet with every doctor in the area? Is there someplace on the web where I can get referrals?
Doctor:you can try
User:Thankyou for your help
User:I will end the chat now
Doctor:Your wish
Doctor:I hope I was able to help you
User:Yes you were very helpful
Doctor:thank you very much for consulting me here
Doctor:Take care
Doctor:all the very best with your treatment and finding the right doctor
User:You too
Doctor:have a good day ahead
