User :   i had a gynae prob.. would you be able to help?

User :   i missed my periods by 2.5 weeks this month so i consulted a doc
User :   tests were done and from the results, my TSH was 5.64, and my left ovary shows an ovary cyst

User :   she prescribed eltroxin for thyroid

User :   and ovrall for 2 months

User :   but i have a few concerns like i d not want to get used to taking eltroxin for a life
User :   age: 28, height - 5'2", wt: 74 kgs

User :   yes
User :   I have put on 10 kgs sin 6months.. which seems odd...since my thyroid is at the border line... isthere some other way i could reduce it

Doctor :   But you can do certain things
Doctor :   to reduce the dose of thyroxin
Doctor :   1) Regular one hour of exercise
Doctor :   2) Avoid cabbage, cauliflower
Doctor :   3) Regular testing for Thyroid profile, once in 3 months or as directed by doctor
Doctor :   This avoids extra or unnecessary doses
Doctor :   I know it is difficult to accept any medicine at this time
Doctor :   but for your own benefit the doctor prescribed it
Doctor :   Otherwise it can lead to further complications
User :   if my TSH is reduced can i leave the medicineor doi have to continue it..?
Doctor :   You need to continue for sometime and slowly reduce it over a period of time after consulting with doctor
Doctor :   Usually the thyroid def is life long
Doctor :   hence most of them are advised to continue with regular check up
User :   what side effects can it have?
Doctor :   Do you mean taking or not taking the medicine?
User :   taking the medicine
Doctor :   There are no sideeffects per se
Doctor :   But you need to closely follow up with your doctor and get regular TSH to know if the dose is sufficient for your needs or not
Doctor :   Sometimes they can increase after 2 weeks or 4 weeks
User :   also... i mentioned earlier that i have missed my periods for 2.5 weeks this month...she had prescribed meprate to induce the bleeding but i thought i'd waited for a day or 2 before i take it and today my periods came.. very light though...

User :   i have also never used contraceptives and that is making me more skeptikal about taking ovral L for 2months..... i am sorry... i am just worried about this whole situation

Doctor :   If you get regular periods then you can easily conceive

User :   no last year i missed it for an entire month and ususally my cycle is just 21 days

Doctor :   You just take Ovral for 2 months
Doctor :   and check if the periods regularise
Doctor :   the Cyst shall disapper on its own most of the time

Doctor :   It just requires a follow up Ultrasound scan to see if the size is regressin

User :   ok...should i then postpone taking the thyroid medicine?

Doctor :   Thyroid abnormality can cause menstrual problems

User :   once i start it, i am still a skeptical of having to take it all my life...
Doctor :   I should say that you first leave the apprehensions, believe in what your doctor say, trust him, continue follow ups

User :   what are the diet restrictions i need to take care of apart from the ones u mentioned above? for thyroid and cysts?
Doctor :   Just avoid fried foods, high fat foods, cabbage and cauliflower
