User:Hi Doctor
User:I have a 2 year old daughter
User:she is having high fever since yesterday evening
Doctor:Any cough, cold or increased breathing?
User:yes she is having minor cough and increased breathing.. from mouth
User:so I also took her to a local physician in morning he gave the following medicines
User:Zedex P , Sinarest and antibiotic Advent. I have given her one dose of each in morning to no go
User:now I have given a second dose as she is still back with high fever
User:in between I had to give her crocen at 12 due to high temp
User:what should I do?
User:I measured temp on body - 102
Doctor:First I need a few answers from you
Doctor:When I say breathing fast, I dont mean breathing from the mouth
Doctor:I want to know whether she is breathing faster than usual
Doctor:Or is she complaining that she is having difficulty in breathing
User:now.. she is not.. she is breathing from her mouth.. now is the first time a I can see a little bit of cold from her nose.. uptil now the nose was dry outside..
Doctor:The medication that this doctor has given is actually not needed
Doctor:lets do one thing
Doctor:I'll wait for 1 minute
Doctor:I want you to measure how many times her stomach goes up and down in a minute
Doctor:1 up and down=1
User:okay sure..
User:64-65 times that I could count.. she is very irritable and not letting do anything unusual
Doctor:So the drugs which your physician has given are correct
Doctor:Now, for the fever, you can do sponging, and give her calpol
Doctor:It needs to be given in 10mg/kg
Doctor:what is her weight
User:10.4 kgs. okay... but when will the affects shows.. she is burning up right now :(
Doctor:In 30 minutes
Doctor:So the dose for her is 150 mg
User:okay.. and crocin? I should not give her?
Doctor:Same thing. You are giving her crocin syrup?
User:okay.. I have crocin handy..
Doctor:6 mg?
User:what should I do as she is not showing the affects of the medicine as yet.. (not given crocin 2nd dose yet gave first at 11:30am)
Doctor:It will be there in 30 minutes
User:sorry 6 ML in the measurement
Doctor:You can give one dose right now
Doctor:Thats ok then for her
Doctor:You need to give her 6 ml
Doctor:Maximum you can give 4 times per day
User:and the regular medicines that the doctor gave..
Doctor:They are fine too. Your daughter has a respiratory tract infection
Doctor:Since her respiratory rate is also increased, she needs antibiotics
Doctor:For the blocked nose, you can put Nasonex drops
Doctor:Every 4-6 hours. They will relieve it
Doctor:The medication your doctor has given is correct
Doctor:It will take some time for her to become ok. Generally speaking about 2-3 days.
User:oh so she will keep getting this high temperature for today at least?
Doctor:You can expect it
Doctor:Sponge her with lukewarm water and give her crocin. That should help
User:okay.. thank you so much.. was extremely worried..
Doctor:But when she doesnt have fever
User:just giving her crocin now
Doctor:She doesnt need crocin
User:yes.. for sure
Doctor:Also, make sure she gets plenty of fluid. so lot of juice and coconut water
Doctor:she will get irritable, but when the crocin shows effect. It will be fine
Doctor:You should also force her to eat
Doctor:whatever she likes
Doctor:Recovery will be faster
User:doctor one more thing
User:in morning the doctor gave a tablet in her rectum
User:shd I buy more of that and insert during high fever?
Doctor:Not at all
Doctor:Its diazepam
Doctor:and its given rectally in children
Doctor:Sometimes, they have fits when they have high fever
Doctor:It prevents these fits
Doctor:Please dont give it yourself
User:but even after tht given at 8 in morning she was back on fever at 11am
Doctor:It is not related to the fever
User:oh okay
Doctor:Children with high fever sometimes get fits
Doctor:It prevents these fits
Doctor:The fever needs to be treated independently
Doctor:The fever will keep coming back till the infection is treated
Doctor:Since the antibiotics will take 1-2 days to show their effect
Doctor:It will last till then
Doctor:After that it will decrease
User:I have given her 2 doses of antibiotic in anxiety.. doctor told 2 in a day.. :(
User:shd I not give her in night?
Doctor:Give her the dose in the night
User:I gave her 4ml not 5ml as doctor wrote.. since I was told 2.5 kg per ml of anitbiotic
Doctor:But dont give her double doses agan
User:ok sure
Doctor:Dosage is very important in children. Your daughter will be fine. I can assure you that
Doctor:So dont worry. Do sponging, give her plenty of fluid and food and give her proper doses at proper time
User:okay.. thank you so much doctor
Doctor:Is there anything else I can help you with?
