User:My mother in law in her blood test has got serum calcium level of 12. What does this indicates
User:she has been suffering from arthritis from last 35 years
Doctor:Is it normal calcium level or ionized calcium level?

Doctor:Serum calcium levels are of 2 types - total calcium and ionized calcium.
Doctor:If it was not specified, it might probably be the total calcium level.
User:does this indicates some issue
Doctor:Total calcium value of is 9 to 10.5.
Doctor:A higher value is occasionally found in some individuals without causing any troubles.
Doctor:In a few this may be suggestive of some illness associated with bones / renal conditions.
Doctor:Since the values are marginally higher, we can recheck the levels after couple of weeks.
