User :   Hi
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   how can i help you today?
User :   hi, i am 21 year old female and i've been going to the doctor for a sore throat, sinus problems, and clogged ears for about a month now.
Doctor :   ok
User :   at first i had an ear infection that went away with antibiotics
User :   however there is still a bit of fluid left
User :   i was prescribed clarytin d for my sinuses and that has helped too
User :   however reoccurring sore throat is still there and the soreness now turns into a minty cool feeling
User :   yesterday it lasted for a few hours
User :   i did research and it said that feeling may be related to acid reflux
User :   i do have reccurring times when food comes back up
User :   now im scared that all of my other symptoms are linked to acid reflux complications
User :   ive never been screened for acid reflux but the common regurtation of food is there at times
Doctor :   the symptoms that you have are all related to infection in the nsaophargeal and ear cavities
Doctor :   acid reflux can cause symptoms like epigastric discomfort and persistant cough
User :   what is epigastric discomfort?
Doctor :   burning pain like sensation in the center of the chest below the ribcage
User :   oh no i dont have that
Doctor :   so your symptoms are not due to acid reflux
User :   but what about the minty feeling in the back of the throat?
Doctor :   that could be due to exudates resulting due to a post nasal drip
Doctor :   this constant feeling due to the drip causes such sensation
User :   my ears arent infected however they still have liquid behind the ear drum
User :   however my doctor said to leave it alone
User :   and prescribed 600 mg of motrin every 6 hrs
Doctor :   this is called serous otitis media, and this is due to defective drainage of the auditory canal
User :   so what should i expect from this?
Doctor :   this is a benign issue, and the secretions will reduce soon within 2 weeks
User :   even though its been a month of going through the ear infection
User :   i had worse symptoms before
User :   and they appear to be getting better
User :   but im just concerned about it being a month and me still having to deal with this
Doctor :   the other option is to get a tube placed in the ear, to drain the secretions in the middle ear, by a minor procedure
User :   i see
Doctor :   are you taking any other medications as of now ?
User :   robitussin and motrin
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   so ur cough has subsided ?
User :   yes
User :   most of the time it was sore throat
Doctor :   in addition to the above meds, take a zyrtec tablet once a day
User :   cough would only happen for 2 days and go away
Doctor :   this will reduce the ear secretions
Doctor :   and will help in early recovery
User :   i see
User :   i have a question about acid reflux...i read online in some forums that it can lead to sinus and ear infections and throat pain
Doctor :   it does not lead to such infections
Doctor :   that is a mis-interpretation
Doctor :   but it causes persistant cough, in severe cases , but not infections in all the ear , nose and throat
User :   is it normal when burping to sometimes have liquid come up
User :   i drank a lot of water
User :   and burped
User :   some came up
User :   its not acidic
Doctor :   yes, that is normal
Doctor :   when u burp, along with the gas , some fluid can come up,
Doctor :   this is normal
User :   i see
User :   so the throat pain is normal because i still have some liquid in my ear?
Doctor :   the pain in the throat is due to persistant inflammation
Doctor :   ear infections can repeatedly spread to the nose and the throat , causing repeated infections there
User :   i was very concerned because the throat pain would go away and come back
User :   its never constant
User :   throughout this month some days i feel normal and other days it comes back
User :   just scared its something like cancer
Doctor :   this is a result called post infectious bronchitis , and nothing related to cancer
User :   even though i didnt have much of a cough?
Doctor :   yes
Doctor :   this is a benign condition and u need not worry
Doctor :   this is common after any pharyngeal infection
User :   i see
User :   also, sometimes i feel my tonsils swelling up
User :   they go down eventually after a while
User :   it feels like my throat tightens up
Doctor :   yes , as the rate of inflammation subsides, the swelling comes down
User :   i see
User :   i know it's related to acid reflux
User :   finally, what is LPR
User :   i know it's related to acid reflux
Doctor :   im not sure what you mean by LPR ?
Doctor :   DO U KNOW THE full expansion ?
User :   Laryngopharyngeal Reflux (LPR)
Doctor :   oh ok
Doctor :   this is the reflux of secretions of the larynx into the oropharynx
User :   food going back into the mouth?
User :   food going back to the mouth?
Doctor :   this is not food
Doctor :   food does not enter the larynx
Doctor :   larynx is the wind pipe and if food enters it, can cause choking and death
User :   on here i read that a symptom is food coming back up
User :   oh
User :   i just want to comprehend it a bit better
Doctor :   this is the same that we call gastric reflux
Doctor :   secretions or food from food pipe , enter the throat (pharynx) and the secretions descend into the larynx
Doctor :   i hope u have understood so far
User :   yes
Doctor :   you can take omeprazole 20 mg twice daily
Doctor :   this will reduce the symptoms , if u have gastric reflux
Doctor :   but I assure you , that you dont have such issues
User :   the gastric reflux doesnt happen all of the time just once in a while
Doctor :   in that case no meds needed
Doctor :   Hi
User :   yes, well you really have lessend my worries
User :   i see
Doctor :   im happy to help
User :   not minty just feels a bit swollen
Doctor :   are u there ?
User :   yes
User :   yes
User :   technical difficulties i think
User :   i went out and bought antacids (TUMS) yesterday
Doctor :   ok
User :   and when i took them the minty feeling didnt go away really
User :   only for a bit
User :   so i was concerned that my acid reflux was really bad
Doctor :   ok
User :   i think i eat too fast and sometimes dont take the time to fully chew the food
User :   if im in a hurry
User :   so that's when it'll come up
Doctor :   as i said, this does not seem to be acid reflux at all
User :   also, would it be ok to listen to music while the fluid is still there?
Doctor :   yes
User :   or would it do harm to my ear
Doctor :   listening to music is not going to affect anything
User :   in my ear
Doctor :   you can enjoy your music ,
User :   thank you very much for everything. you have truly helped a lot
User :   yes, thank you very much for relieving my anxiety and doubts about this
User :   i am very grateful.
Doctor :   i am happy to help
User :   goodbye
Doctor :   you are most welcome
Doctor :   TAKE CAre and bye for now
