User :   Please help: I have a swolen cyst in my labia minora. This is the third time I've experienced this pain, right before my period. Once I get my period, the cyst like formation burts with blood. It hurts to sit; to walk and it makes it impossible to have intercourse.I've seen a doctor and she prescribed antibiotics for ten days. It did not seem to help. I'm 40; I've been married for 20 years and I have PCOS as well.
Doctor :   Hi
User :   Hello
User :   I was hoping you could help me.
User :   My whole life I've always had irregular periods because of my PCOS.
User :   Well, now that I'm 40, I have these painful cyst/like formation in my labia minora prior to my period. Then it burts with blood.
Doctor :   Ok I understand and I am reading it
Doctor :   Give me a couple of minutes to read it in entirety
User :   ok
Doctor :   Well, recurrence cyst in the labia minora also called Bartholin cysts
Doctor :   It has no strong association with menstrual periods
User :   But when I research it on the internet it looks like a bubble and it says it does not hurt.
Doctor :   Yes it hurts
Doctor :   Usually the treatment is antibiotics and sitz baths recommended in the early stages
User :   The one I have is the shape of the labia minora. It does not go away. It just defletes like a balloon...then it swells up again.
Doctor :   and if this is not helping the next level of treatment, is marsupialization that is surgical scooping and leaving the gland open not to accumulate any more debris
User :   I cannot sit for a long period of time. And when it gets engorged with blood it makes it impossible for me to walk; sit down or do anything.
User :   I saw a doctor and she prescribed antibiotics for 10 days. It did not help.
User :   I was todl to go back when I have insurance again.
Doctor :   You can just sit in the warm water tub
Doctor :   That is the best therapy suggested right now
Doctor :   because these special sitz baths helps in draining of abscess
Doctor :   and less discomfort
Doctor :   You need to sit for just 10 minutes , three times a day
User :   I see. I will be able to get blood tests done; etc once I have health a month.
User :   maybe surgery to get rid of this obnoxious and painful cyst.
Doctor :   Only blood test you need is complete blood counts and Blood sugar
Doctor :   You do not need great number of tests,
Doctor :   Actually surgery is a day care procedure done by Gynecologist in their office
User :   Every time I get it, is prior to my period. And the bleeding is too much.
User :   Last time I got my glucose level it was a little high: 102.
Doctor :   You will be out of the doctor's office within an hour
Doctor :   That is fine
User :   I know I have to lose weight. But I never had such a painful; swollen with blood cyst before.
User :   When it feels up; it gets filled with blood. It does not icth; just hurts a lot.
Doctor :   Does it drain pus too?
User :   Nope. I will not be at the doctor in an hour: I lack insurance.
Doctor :   It is important to keep the area clean and away from infection when you are sexually active
User :   I have to wait until the end of March to see a doctor. Last time I saw one (last month) I had to pay cash...any surgery would be very expensive without proper health coverage.
Doctor :   In sexually active females it attracts infection
User :   No pus. Just blood. It deflates like a balloon.
Doctor :   In that case the cheapest and yet effective option is sitz baths daily till the time you get this cyst drained
User :   I cannot even think of sexual activity. Because this thing grows and gets engorged with blood.
Doctor :   Yes, refrain from it as long as possible
User :   It does not have a head. When it is full of blood; it looks like a caterpillar.
User :   Why do I have this horrific thing out of a sudden?
Doctor :   The exact cause why this happens is yet to be known.
User :   It's very frustrating. Especially because I have to wait for the health coverage to kick in at the end of March.
User :   Do I have it because of my Policystic Ovarian Syndrome?
Doctor :   there are few factors such as hormones, infections that are known to be responsible.
User :   In the past I never had I have pain and periods that resemble hemorrages every month.
User :   I will just wait and hopefully get it surgically removed next month.
Doctor :   The irregular periods are related to the PCOS
User :   But now that I'm older (40); I get my periods every month and I also get the cysts engorged with blood.
Doctor :   and periods can be regulated by means of medications - birth control pills or by other hormonal pills.
User :   I see. I hope I can see a doctor soon and have this thing removed.
Doctor :   Continue sit baths as suggested.
