Doctor:How can I help you?
User:I have lichen planus on both of my hands
User:I had consulted a skin specialist and he gave me steroid based medicines
User:which i took for sometime and my allergy had become normal
User:but i dont want to take steroid, so was curious if anyone at healthcare magic can advise some medicine to cure this.
Doctor:Lichen planus is a chronic medical condition which can be kept under control with medications.
User:I know that
Doctor:If you do not wish to take steroids, there are other medications that can help you.
Doctor:Apart from the medications, you may try PUVA therapy (the phototherapy sessions).
Doctor:You may also try alovera containing products for beneficial results.
User:If you can tell me other such medication?
Doctor:Apart from steroids, we have immunosuppresant drugs like tacrolimus and retinoid products which are helpful.
Doctor:They are not as potent as steroids, however over a period of time they provide similar benefits as steroids.
Doctor:In fact these medications are used for patients who have side effects to steroids and for those who cannot tolerate steroids.
Doctor:Your dermatologist will know about these medications. Since you are not happy with using steroids, I think you can try the other medications along with PUVA.
Doctor:Have you followed?
User:But he insisted on these medicines only
Doctor:Most doctors prefer to use steroids, because they are potent and when used briefly they cause no major side effects.
Doctor:So I do understand the reasons why your current doctor insisted on steroids.
User:hmmm... So what would you suggest to take steriods?
Doctor:If your current doctor is not willing to discuss about other treatment options, you can consider taking a second opinion.
Doctor:Steroids is useful for short duration such as few weeks to month.
User:And what about these marks?
User:they can also be taken care of?
Doctor:If you refer to the lichen planus lesions, yes steroids help both in preventing progression and improving the symptoms.
Doctor:However if they are depigmented spots which remains even after treatment, they can be taken care of seperately.
Doctor:So do not be concerned.
User:thanks so much
Doctor:If you are yet to start on steroids and if the medications are given to you only briefly, I think you should take that.
Doctor:Hope it is clear.
Doctor:Do you have any other query?
User:and can u tell me how much PUVA therapy cost?
Doctor:The cost is varied.
User:rough ides
Doctor:On an average it would cost you about Rs.200 to 400 per session.
Doctor:You may need a few sessions.
Doctor:Have you followed?
Doctor:Do you have any other query?
User:no thank you so much
User:now i knw what to do
Doctor:You are welcome.
Doctor:Thanks for consulting me.
Doctor:Bye for now.
