User :   I got diagnosed with herepes on my thigh today, can my baby get herpes since the doctor said i had it when i was pregnant?
Doctor :   hI
User :   hi
Doctor :   give me a minute to read your query
User :   ok.
Doctor :   since when did you have herpes?
Doctor :   is this your first time?
User :   I got a rash like that when i was pregnant and my obgyn over looked it and i got it again last wed and it looked and tested and find out today that i had it.
Doctor :   Herpes in contagious
Doctor :   ok
User :   so that was about a yr ago
User :   my child is 5 months old now
Doctor :   basically a child can contract herpes from the mother in two ways
Doctor :   1. during the time of dellivery through the birth canal
Doctor :   the second being close contact with the mother, if she has oral lesions , when she kisses the child it can get into him
Doctor :   can i know the mode of delivery?
Doctor :   was it a section or vaginal?
User :   well that didn't happen since i don't have genital herpes, and it's on my upper thigh on the outside and it has been covered, and i had him vaginal
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   this was just to make sure
Doctor :   do you have any oral lesions now?
Doctor :   apart from the one on your thigh?
User :   no that is the only spot
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   you might have not transmitted it to your child
Doctor :   and as of now are you on treatment for it?
User :   the doctor did not give any meds for it cause he said it is almost gone and since it is on my thigh on the outside that it's not that big of a concern just keep it covered. till it's gone and don't let anyone touch it.
User :   can i still transmit it sexually?
Doctor :   the child is at risk only if he is going to be in contact or exposed to the area of infection.
User :   ok so if i had it when i was 4 months along and nothing till now he would not have got it when he was born?
Doctor :   no , it is not transmitted sexually
User :   sorry for all the questions im kinda worry wart
Doctor :   but can be transmitted by physical contact with your partner
User :   ok so if he were to touch it without it be covered he could catch it
Doctor :   no, since what you have is HSV 1
User :   ok
Doctor :   it will not have agenital tranmission and hence the child would be safe
User :   ok good.
Doctor :   if it were henital herpes, there would surely be a risk
Doctor :   genital*
User :   ok no it's just on my thigh, whitch i thought was a very werid place but i guess if i was gonna have it i would rather have it there then anywhere else
User :   also i have mono don't know how i got that can i give that to my baby?
Doctor :   yes, it is better than having a genital herpes.
User :   yes it is.
Doctor :   you meant infectious mononucleosis?
User :   idk they tested me for mono and said i was postive for mono cause i was sick
Doctor :   When was this diagnosed?
User :   today also
Doctor :   infectious mononucleosis spreads by close contact again
User :   how would i get that or what are the causes?
Doctor :   this is a contagious illnes
Doctor :   it is commonly known as kissing disease
Doctor :   one can get it from close contact with an infected person by inhalation of droplets
Doctor :   or with nasal/oral secretions
User :   Ok ive been reading up on it. is it anything really seriours? and should i stay home from work?
Doctor :   it is not serious as long as you take medicines and try to get it cured
Doctor :   if you have fever, sore throat presently, you may need to take leave
Doctor :   and get this treated
User :   they said no meds just fluids and sleep
Doctor :   as this is a viral infection.
Doctor :   yes
Doctor :   as it is viral
User :   i have a very low grade fever 96.1..
Doctor :   it needs symptomatic treatment
User :   or no fever i mean
Doctor :   that is fine.
Doctor :   just make sure you do not get stressed
Doctor :   as it will aggravate your herpes as well
Doctor :   you ned rest
Doctor :   need*
User :   ok
Doctor :   take as much as fluids and keep yourself wel fed
Doctor :   you could try soups, fruit juices non chilled
Doctor :   and small meals if you cant have regular food
Doctor :   anytime the temperature shoots up, take an antipyretic.
User :   ok. So just to clairfy i can not pass the herpies to my partner by having sex and to not having any contact right now till the mono is gone
Doctor :   ys, exactly
Doctor :   yes.
User :   i just been feeling worse by the hour
Doctor :   i hope i could answer your questions.
Doctor :   no, do not worry
Doctor :   you will be fine
Doctor :   mono wil get away with time
Doctor :   just be cautious
Doctor :   for the herpes , even that can be treated.
Doctor :   and you child is safe too
Doctor :   so do not worry
User :   Ok, and that;s my main concern. So im fine to have another baby?
Doctor :   could you follow my suggestions?
User :   yes
Doctor :   yes, but before planning one , better to get tested for herpes
Doctor :   and treated completley
Doctor :   this is just a precaution we can take
User :   but i was just tested for them. or should i get restested?
Doctor :   no not needed for now
Doctor :   if you hav done them, go ahead with the net kid
Doctor :   next*
Doctor :   generally they screen for infections in pregnancy , so you need not worry about it
User :   Yes i was screened for everything im pretty sure when i was pregnant i live in oregon so i don't know what all they test for
User :   so since i don't have gential herpes it would be fine to go ahead with the next kid since it won't hurt the fetus
Doctor :   are you there?
User :   yes
Doctor :   yes , you can
Doctor :   you go ahead
Doctor :   but they will screen every pregnancy
Doctor :   so you need not worry
Doctor :   your mono also will be gone in sometime.
Doctor :   so , you could plan a pregnancy after that.
User :   ok.
Doctor :   are there any more questions that i could help you with?
User :   a couple more if that is ok
Doctor :   are you there with me?
Doctor :   sure, please go ahead
User :   i was told that some over the age of 25 can not get mono???? is that false?
Doctor :   no nothing like that
Doctor :   this is a viral infection
Doctor :   generally common in the adoloscent age group
Doctor :   adoloscent
Doctor :   but this does not mean people beyond this age cannot have it.
Doctor :   it just depends on how close the contacts were with the person getting it.
User :   ok. that's what I thought. But itsn't it like chicken pox once you get it you can't get it again?
Doctor :   no, you could get it again as this does not provide life long immunity which chicken pox virus antibodies give.
User :   Well im hoping that my Fiance does not get it he has no symptons yet
Doctor :   he may be at risk of it if he is in close contact with you
Doctor :   for a couple of weeks just keep away from the intimacy.
User :   he was 2 days before i found out i had it, ok that's what i was planning.
Doctor :   use a hand kerchief/ cover your nose and mouth so that you dont cough up the secretions.
Doctor :   if his immunity is good enough , that would not be a worry
User :   ok i was thinking of getting those mask to cover my mouth for a little bit so my son doesn't catch it.
Doctor :   sure, that would be great, even when you are in contact with your baby do follow this
Doctor :   just a couple if weks till you recover you may need this.
Doctor :   are you with me?
User :   ok.
User :   just one more question before i let you go.
Doctor :   sure, go ahead
User :   How the hell would i get herpes on my thigh!
Doctor :   you could have contracted it from someone by contact and this virus can arise in any part of the body.
User :   ok
Doctor :   or from towels/ hand kerchiefs
Doctor :   or just by physical contact.
Doctor :   the area of contracting it, cannot be reasoned out .it can arise any where.
User :   werid. can i spread it to any other parts of my body?
Doctor :   yes, it could , but as in your case the rash has disappeared so now your not infective .
Doctor :   keep away from stress and strenuous exercise for a while
Doctor :   these could trigger it back if it has just gone .
User :   ok.
Doctor :   did you follow what i suggested.
Doctor :   did i answer all your questions?
User :   one quick one if my fiance and me had sex on 3/2 when would be the best time to test?
Doctor :   that will depend on your last menstrual cycle
Doctor :   you can test for pregnancy after 2 weeks
Doctor :   if it was done during the ovulation time
User :   ok
Doctor :   or if you miss your cycle.
User :   yea i don't keep track i know it was last month somtime
Doctor :   the fruitful period will be around 14 days of the 28 day cycle
User :   ok
Doctor :   if the cycles were regular
User :   well thank you sooo much
User :   for all your help
Doctor :   anywhere from day 10 to 21
Doctor :   pleasure here
Doctor :   thanks for consulting me
Doctor :   bye for now.
