User :   I'm a 20 year old female. And I've had it before - but not in a year or so. I woke up from a nap today and after waking up I started having sporadic chest pains throughout the day. Basically they come without rhyme or reason. They feel like a twinge and last a couple of seconds. I have no family history of heart disease. The only person in my family to have any heart problems when my grandma had a heart attack at the age of 65. I have been dealing with extreme anxiety over the last month or so. Which I think is making it worse.
Doctor :   Hi
User :   hi
Doctor :   Let me read it
User :   ok
Doctor :   what symptoms do you have apart from sporadic chest pains ?
User :   nothing really
User :   I'm just really worried about it
User :   no shortness of breath, tingling or any of that stuff
Doctor :   ok. you said you have been having anxiety, so does this become worse or increase in severity during your peroids of anxiety?
User :   this is the first time I've had this in a long time, last time I had it was after my friend passed away of cancer. But yes when I seem to think about the pain or let myself get worked up about it it become more frequent
Doctor :   do you find any relation to anxiety and appearance of these symptoms?
User :   well it seems that way - like I said I haven't had them in forever....since my really bad last bout with anxiety and they appear now. When I've been experiencing anxiety pretty bad for the passed month
Doctor :   during the episodes is there palpitation (rapid heart rate), sweating or radiation of the chest pain to shoulder, arms or jaw?
User :   rapid heart rate but that's it - none of the others
Doctor :   ok.
Doctor :   get your baseline ECG done after the next episode
User :   ECG?
Doctor :   and also an evaluation by your doctor or a psychologist to see if the anxiety is the only cause
Doctor :   ECG is eclectrocardiogram, to be done to ryule out possibility of your symptoms being cardiac (from heart) in origin.
User :   alright that sounds good
User :   can my GP do the ECG
User :   or do I have to go to the hospital for that?
Doctor :   so once the cardiac cause is found or ruled out, then it will be easier to deal with
Doctor :   your GP can get it done. you can meet your GP first
Doctor :   and then proceed further as indicated.
User :   alright then
Doctor :   did you follow what I said?
User :   I think so - just to go check with my GP and have an ECG done to rule out any heart problems
User :   I would think since I'm so young it wouldn't be cardiac :S
Doctor :   yes
Doctor :   is there anything else I can help you with?
User :   nope that's all I really had questions with - thank you for being patient with a hypochondriac :)
Doctor :   it is fine. I am here to help you
Doctor :   and help you understand your problem
Doctor :   and proceed further in the right direction.
Doctor :   thanks for consulting me. bye for now. do get back to me if you have further queries.
