User :   hello?
User :   any doctor here?
User :   hi?
Doctor :   Hi
User :   Hi doctor
Doctor :   How can I help you ?
Doctor :   Hi
User :   is it safe to gently spin baby around?
Doctor :   May I ask you a few more specific questions to help you better ?
User :   yes
Doctor :   May I know the age of the baby ?
User :   8 months
Doctor :   May I know how you want to spin the baby ?
User :   Well, this morning, I sat him on my knee while I was sitting in my office chair
Doctor :   Ok.
User :   I swiveled the chair around
Doctor :   Ok.
User :   not very fast, and only two or three rounds
Doctor :   I understand now the question that you have asked me,
User :   but my mum told me it's not safe to spin baby around
User :   and I googled, and found some webpage says never spin baby around
Doctor :   It is very fine if you swivel around very gentle as almost that you spin around your chair once 360 degrees in at least 20 secs.
User :   and some other says gently spin a baby is better for their brain development
User :   so, I am confused
Doctor :   to 30 secs.
Doctor :   If you spin faster than that their inner ears get affected.
User :   not that slow, spin around 360 degree about in 2-3 seconds
Doctor :   they obviously land up in vertigo problems
Doctor :   Please do not do it that fast .
Doctor :   at least 15secs.
Doctor :   not faster than that.
User :   15 seconds? then I won't consider that's a spin at all
User :   even slower than I walk around
Doctor :   but rocking or swinging is fine but but not 360 degress,
User :   is it really that bad?
User :   you made me worry now#
Doctor :   rocking or swinging can be done pretty fast as you have mentioned, but swinging causes problems in inner ear , they loose sense of balance and start to vomit.
Doctor :   No big long term effects.
Doctor :   But Vertigo and vomitings.
User :   Is it bad for their brain?
Doctor :   If you have done it once or twice their there is no issue.
Doctor :   No ill affects on the brain as far as I know.
User :   so you mean may only cause him to be a bit dizzy?
Doctor :   That should not be a problem to worry about.
User :   temporary diziness?
User :   is it good to teach baby balance?
Doctor :   Yes exactly and may cause him to vomit his food or milk very easily as their valves are not yet well developed and their inner ears yet is not totally developed and may cause vertigo.
User :   as some webpages even encourage parents to do so
Doctor :   Yes you can start make him stand up with support , gently with your help and take small toddle steps.
Doctor :   This can slowly teach him balance.
User :   No, I mean is gently spining a baby around good to teach baby balance?
Doctor :   Ok,
Doctor :   I would say not more than 3-5 spins per day gently, not more than that.
User :   how fast?
Doctor :   I think he would enjoy if you do it at a medium pace , but do not do it too fast.
Doctor :   not at the pace you mentioned.
Doctor :   2-3 secs.
User :   I don't think I spinned him fast
User :   maybe my feel of time is wrong
Doctor :   please slow down to a lesser pace at 5-6 secs once every time .
Doctor :   give a break and then after some time another one , will not be an issue.
User :   so, 3-5 spins per day, and 5-6 secs per 360 degree
Doctor :   Yes.exactly right.
Doctor :   But not 3-5 spins at a time.
Doctor :   you can spin at 15secs speed as many times as you want.
Doctor :   And as you said it is almost like walking around.
User :   could spining too much cause brain damage?
User :   how fast and how many may have results to the brain?
Doctor :   Yes too much of spinning can cause them to faint .
Doctor :   And may lead to other complications.
User :   My baby fell asleep about 15 minutes after I spinned him. Slept for about 20 minutes, woke up by himself. Is it something to be concerned?
User :   No other abnormals
Doctor :   I do not have an exact research study on the exact no. of spins .
Doctor :   How did you spin , did you do it around 360 degrees.
User :   yes, spinned on my office chair
User :   two or three rounds
Doctor :   Two or three rounds is absolutely fine and will cause no harm.
I would recommend you to rock her or swing her at a better speed rather than 360 degrees.
Doctor :   You can swing her side ways or rock her in a rocker as long as possible.
Doctor :   And is very good and helpful.
User :   Ok, I won't do that again
User :   but just want to make sure what I have done didn't do him any harm
Doctor :   No No harm at all in 2/3 .

Doctor :   It is absolutely fine .
User :   is his sleeping after I spinned him something to be concerned?
User :   it's not his usual sleeping time
Doctor :   No usually babies get drowsy when you swing them as you would be knowing.
Doctor :   Only when it is too fast or fast too many times that causes issues.
Doctor :   But no problem at all for 2/3 times.
Doctor :   Not to worry at all.
Doctor :   How is he now , I feel he is absolutely fine and active.
User :   Yes, he is fine
User :   2-3 seconds a round, is it considered too fast?
Doctor :   I would say fast.
Doctor :   Not too fast.
User :   so, that speed won't do him harm? (well, I definitely won't do it again)
Doctor :   Dont worry or panic , he has not been harmed a speck in those 2/3 rounds.
Doctor :   And just take care that you donot over do it.
Doctor :   And keep rocking or swinging to put him to bed.
Doctor :   How is the child's neck holding , Can he do it without support ?
User :   yes, he has good head control
User :   he is 8 months now
Doctor :   So that says it , he is doing perfect and his mile stones might be fine.
Doctor :   Dont worry. Have a nice time with your baby and he will be a wonderful baby.
User :   Well, I have seen a lot a parents doing that for playing
User :   and in the baby's music group, we all hold the baby and turn around with the music
User :   but only one round
User :   I never thought it's a bad thing to baby
Doctor :   You can do that after 11-12 months and start practising form there and completely after 15-16 months.
User :   ok, I will stop doing that
User :   thank you doctor
Doctor :   Thank you for consulting me.Take care, Bye for now. And May God bless your child always with good health.
User :   thank you, bye
